If there were six stars to rate PR Motorsports available, I'd give it seven! Rick Weldon has been servicing my 1991 Mazda Miata from day one when I first bought it nearly eighteen years ago. In fact no other shop has really ever worked on it except for specialty things that the his shop doesn't handle, (and in that case, Rick sends me to extremely reliable shops who will!) This is all to say that I completely trust PR with my car, always have. They are honest beyond belief, trustworthy and so friendly. I just had a major service there which took some time and yet felt comfortable staying and chatting the entire time and watching what was going on. I learned about PR early on in 1991 from the Miata Club whose members all brought their cars to Rick. From the first time on I was thrilled to have found them right away without having to shop and search for reliable service. They have become almost family to me by now. The shop is so clean you could eat off the floor! They keep up on all the newest developments on automotive technology so there's never concern on my part. Also their prices are extremely reasonable. I travel from Walnut Creek to this shop, and now my husband is taking his Acura here as well. Which is to say, I'm true blue.
Pros: Extremely reliable and professional, honest, caring staff
Cons: None really. Just a bit far to travel for me, but worth it big time.

When I bought my '88 RX7 14 years ago the previous owner told me that he got all of the servicing done at PR Motorsports, so I tried them. The drive to Hayward from Oakland isn't quick, but unlike almost every other car shop that I have been to, Rick and his crew seem genuinely interested in my long-term interests. Hey has always given me a heads-up on parts of the car that I should watch out for in the future and gives me the option of when (or if) to do the repairs. Even though they obviously know and loving high performance and racing, they always talk to me in terms that I can understand. That's nice, because it has helped me to learn more about what my car needs and how to keep it running great! When I visit there I always feels like family ... and their cat mascot is the coolest! I recommend PR Motorsports to anybody that loves their car and wants a comfortable place with great people.
Pros: like family, really know their stuff, won't try to do repairs you don't need
Cons: Far from Oakland, but worth the drive

I first brought my 1985 RX-7 GSL-SE to P.R. Motorsports when I bought it in about 1993 or 1994. A friend had raced RX-7s and swore by Rick and his crew. Though it wasn't exactly convenient (I live in Oakland) to bring my car to an industrial park in Hayward, I was so impressed with their knowledge and the quality and value of their work, along with the family atmosphere, that I found it well worth the hassle. After 5 or 6 years (and 222,000 miles) I sold my Mazda and bought a Nissan 300ZX. I loved the car, but was bummed that P.R. didn't work on Zs and I had to find another mechanic. Recently I retired the Z (with 225,000 miles) and found a 2001 Miata Special Edition with less than 20,000 miles! There was no question where I was going to take it for servicing. I called P.R. and was glad to hear Laura answer the phone. Though it had been more than seven years, she and Rick remembered me immediately. I was also happy to hear that Hector was still there. I brought my new Miata in for a general going over and a cold air intake mod. Nothing had changed. Still great people doing great work at more than competitive prices. The mechanic who worked on my Z also works on Mazda's, but I wouldn't dream of taking my Miata anywhere else but P.R. Motorsports. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I shopped for an auto mechanic for my car as carefully as I shopped for a pediatrician for my kids--lots of research, lots of talking with friends about their experiences. I was looking for someone I could trust to tell me the truth about my car's condition, keep me updated about any work needed, and keep it in safe running order since I transport the most valuable things in the world--my kids. I also wanted someone who wasn't going to overcharge me. PR Motorsports is my choice. Over the years, owner Rick Weldon and his team of professionals have cared for our two minivans and now our two Toyota hybrids. Their honesty, integrity and professional (and efficient) service have made me a loyal customer. I drive all the way from Oakland/Piedmont area to Hayward each time. Their service is THAT good and that valuable to me! Give them a shot. You won't be disappointed. And, if you're the kind that likes to wait--they now offer free internet access!
Pros: personable, professional, efficient, smart, high integrity, honest
Cons: distance from my home--but worth it.

The folks at PR Motorsports are second to none. The level of expertise and service set the standard for what an auto shop should be. I drive my Miata at high performance events at the track and would trust no one else to give my car the once over before each event. I drive all the way down from San Rafael. It is worth it for the piece of mind that the job is done right. Rick Weldon offers the same level of service whether he is doing a simple oil change or installing a supercharger. You can drive away knowing the job is done right.

I've been going to PR Motorsports to service our family cars for about 19 years, I have NOT 1 complaint about them. Excellent service, very knowledgeable mechanics and crew, very honest and upfront about their diagnosis and repair. They have earned my trust, that is why they are the only shop that I would trust to service my cars.
Pros: Honesty and the best quality work in the area.
Cons: None that I know

Thanks to Rick Weldon and the extraordinarily talented mechanics in his shop, I am still driving my 1988 Honda Civic. I met Rick in 1989, and only PR Motorsports has serviced my car since then. My primary concern when looking for a shop to service my car is trust. I trust Rick. Rick explains everything you might want to know in as much detail as you may care to hear. All of the repair work that Hector and Vic have done for me over the years was perfect; I have never had to return for a follow-up visit. Also, do not hesitate to ask Laura about anything. She is EXTREMELY knowledgeable -- Laura is my telephone automotive paramedic. PR Motorsports folks have been together for a long time. They are a family and treat customers like family, too. My favorite Rick story goes like this. My oil light was on for awhile, but there was plenty of oil in the engine. I kept checking the oil over several weeks. Life, family and work were turning into an emotional Bermuda Triangle, so I didn't pay that much attention to the noise I started hearing in the engine. I finally decided to see Rick and, on Winton Avenue on the way to his shop, I threw a rod. Yes; my 1988 Honda Hemy threw a rod. I had it towed in even though I knew my engine's life was over. In fewer than 5 minutes, my problem was solved. Rick explained all of the alternatives -- buy a new car, sell the old one fo a wrecking yard, or put in a new or used engine. -- I wasn't thinking too clearly at the time because I was very angry with myself. He located a used engine for me while I sat across the desk from him. The only delay in completing the repair was caused by Rick's dissatisfaction with the quality of the engine. So, after he found a better one, Rick and Vic compared the used engine's parts to my engine, used the better of the two parts, then installed it. Truthfully, I wonder if anyone other than Rick might have done that for his customer. I could not be happier!
Pros: Rides to and from Hayward BART; special car rental rates (pick-up and drop off); absolutely trustworthy & Rick's book recommendations
Cons: Can't think of even one

I first got to know Rick and his “crew” when my ‘89 Accord started having problems with leaking coolant. My regular mechanic was closed for the holidays, and Rick took a look at my car. He told me that the cap that had been put on was defective. He didn’t happen to have the ’89 part in stock (it was a few days before Christmas) and knew I needed it right away, so he called a local dealer who did, and I was able to buy the part and put it on myself. There were several other times that I called him in a panic, and he took the time to dispense accurate advice. Never once did he ask for payment or tell me that he was too busy to talk. I finally decided that I needed to have a mechanic closer to my new home, and he was it. I have never regretted making the switch and only wish I had done it sooner. My previous mechanic told me I had slapping pistons, and my car would eventually die on me. Rick had all his mechanics listen and look – no one could hear it. He took care of a few things and told me my car was OK to drive. I even taught both my daughters to drive on that car. When it was time to purchase another car, he kept checking them out for me until we found one that was just right. Even though he was booked, he fit me in. The latest thing he did for me was when my battery died, and the radio “coded.” He took the time to get the code for me so that I wouldn’t have to pay dealer prices. All this and regular maintenance too! What more could you want? To be treated like part of their family. They do that too!! Now both my daughters go there. If you don’t have an Acura, Honda, or Mazda, you’ll wish you did!
Pros: honest, fair, knowledgeable, reasonably priced, and terrific mechanics
Cons: None

My car has never driven so well since I took it to PR Motorsports. The people there are great. Honest and reliable service. And, they KNOW what they are doing too. I've been ripped off before by other shops, but I know I don't have to worry when I have PR Motorsports taking care of my Acura's maintenance and repairs.

Another shop replaced a main seal (a big Job) twice attempting to fix an oil leak on my Miata. When the car still leaked they told me that the engine was just old. I then took the car to P & R. They diagnosed the problem in about 15 minutes while I waited. They found that one leak was caused by the improperly installed seal, and another leak, probably the original cause of the problem, was from a crumbling rubber gasket. They fixed both problems and gave me photographs of the faulty work to show the other shop. The other shop refunded my money. No more leaks!
Pros: Mazda specialists
