We searched on this site for a good Dim Sum restaurant in Chinatown. I have had Dim Sum ~30 times in the last 15 years and would rate this as pretty good. My dad and I went on a Sunday ~11ish am and were promptly seated. If you are a small party, you might end up at adjoining tables with others, but this did not bother us. The place is pretty spartan but not dingy. When we came, the place was filled with 90+ percent people of Chinese (or other Asian) origin -we considered this to be a positive sign. They have a pretty "classic" selection of dishes, lots of dumplings, egg rolls, dessert and a few veggie dishes. The jasmine tea was very fragrant - a nice touch. The food itself was tasty, but everything appeared to be deep-fried or steamed but greasy. Service was efficient and generally competent, though the English capability of the servers was pretty poor. You will have to be adventurous if you don't speak Mandarin as it is likely you will pick dishes without knowing the ingredients. The prices are very low. A good bet for weekend dim sum in San Francisco.
Pros: Good selection of dishes, low prices
Cons: Lots of fried stuff, poor English capability

the dim sum they serve here is nothing to brag about. there are probably other dim sum shops which have way better tasting food then this place and for a cheaper price.

Gold Mountain has excellent Dim Sum for the money. The ambiance is not the greatest, however the food is really good. I tried City View last week and just went back to Gold Mountain today as a comparison and there was no contest. Gold Mountain's Dim Sum had much better flavor and taste, as well as more ingredients. The City View Dim Sum was ok, but it had a very doughy texture(had the feeling they were skimping on the good stuff such as shrimp and meats). At Gold Mountain the Shrimp Chongfeng(Shrimp wrapped in noodles) had whole shrimps, and the noodles were of firm texture not gooey as some other places. Overall, don't expect great service(I had to wrap my own doggy bag), however the Dim Sum tastes good. If you are bringing a date or trying to impress someone then I would suggest somewhere else, since the service and ambiance is not that good. The food is very good.
Pros: Great Dim Sum
Cons: Service and Ambiance could use some improvements

We love Gold Mountain with a big group of folks from work. I like the fact that there'll always be something new to try - be daring - try the chicken feet at least once.

For people that know dim sum, this place is not good. They couldn't even do the trivial/regular stuff right. The restaurant is also quite dirty...and some of the ingredients tasted a little funny. Actually, I give up trying dim sum in Chinatown. Will stick to Millbrae instead (ie: Zen Pennisula).
Cons: dim sum, dirty

I have been coming here for years with my family and friends. We almost always go during the weekend mornings when it is bustling and packed. There is never more than a 5 minute wait and the servers with the vests on know enough English to help out with any needs that you may have. We always have fresh, hot dim sum almost immediately after being seating and there is a huge variety to choose from. My favorite is the sweet pork buns that have seasame seeds! The price is reasonable, the food is always delicious and the service is always prompt. I love coming here for the mango pudding also!

I went with a group of 5 people at peak time (noon) on a weekday. We were immediately seated (near the kitchen!) and were promptly approached with trays of food. The dim sum was extremely fresh, hot and delicious, with all of the usual selections made very well! Our bill (including two servings of two different desserts) was only $50 for all 5 of us. Service was excellent, polite, and our tea and water (we were given the whole pitcher!) was quickly refilled. Go here!
Pros: tasty dim sum, large tables, fast service

It seems like all the reviews published so far deal with the dim sum of Gold Mountain. To me honestly, dinner is nightmarish at this place. Service is sub-standard as some of the servers can be rude. The Peking duck was cold, stale, and looked like it had been sitting on the kitchen countertop for days. The *sauteed scallops in baby greens* hardly had any scallops while the baby greens flot in oil. The dish was a gelatinous mess to me. When my friend was getting married, I voted against having a Chinese nabquet at this place.
Cons: Food, Bad service

Worth the trip across the bay for me and my friends, this is the best dim sum in Northern California at some of the best prices. Most excellent.
Pros: taste, variety, service
Cons: parking
