I walked into make a party to buy some balloons and pick up some party favors for my nephews birthday party--not too tough, right? I was greeted by someone who spoke no english, had dust covered merchandise, and couldn't explain the basic difference in two types of balloons (what do I know about balloons, but then again, i don't run a party shop).I think she was confused or perhaps she was overcome by the smell of her brazilian takeout food that was stinking up the place.. I noticed that all of the plates and napkin type things for kids looked about 10 years old, so obviously they don't move a lot of merchandise. other than a free piece of candy, what I wound up with was a bunch of balloons that wilted the next afternoon, the day of the party, and had to explain to the non-english speaking woman that she overcharged me by nearly 24 dollars..I would bet that the after effects of her takeout food lasted longer than the balloons did..Not a pleasant experience; there must be better places in the Bay area, right?? Next time, I'll use my own hot air the conventional way and save the aggravation and hassle--maybe the woman should open a restaurant instead since she was much more interested in the food she had than making a decent sale and leaving a customer satisfied.
Cons: language barrier, smell of food throughout, confused help, leftover merchandise from the 70s.

I had heard that Make a Party on Arguello Blvd. in SF was a good place to go for party supplies and to order custom balloons. I called for my boss to get information about the shop planning a large party and was met with such pushiness that I never called back. Further, I have since been informed that their selection of party supplies is extremely limited and that they often have difficulty following through on things--I don't know about you, but I am offended by someone being so pushy with me on the phone. They lost a huge sale, and will never get my business.
Pros: located in SF
Cons: horrible customer service, limited supplies, incompetent, pushy staff, limited English spoken
