This tiny market has EVERYTHING you want to buy and they stock LOCAL ORGANIC for as much as they can. I had them cater a small party and not only did Sam tolerate a lot of my "decision changes" but he got everything perfectly right. And by the way... everyone raved about the cupcakes. YUM... I wish I had one (or three) right now!

Pros: everything is yummy and with a concience

Cons: hard to park

OK, so I'd been to this place once before, looking for cheese made with non-animal rennet. Then, on a search for goat milk ice cream, I ended up here again. If nothing else, these things will tell you that this is a great place to look for unusual items! It's a little bit pricey, and also the kind of place that makes me want to buy a whole bunch of stuff that I don't need...not a good combination for my wallet. Seriously, though, it's a nice store, especially if you're looking for some unusual stuff.

This seems like a great place, but the 2 times I've gotten sandwiches there, they've gotten my order wrong. Even when I've had to repeat it to them 3 times. Very disappointing for a place that people rave about.

Bi-Rite is the picture of your ideal local neighborhood grocery shop: friendly staff, clean store, organic produce, and a varied deli counter. The downside is that the bill racks up quickly and you are led to marvel at just how few items fill your bag as you leave the store. I like the deli counter, but not all dishes are as outstanding as the reputation ... I do like the teriyaki chicken wings! Not a great fan of the sandwiches. Great place to shop with an open budget. Love the cheese samples!

Pros: Nice little neighborhood grocery for the Dolores Park Crowd

Cons: pricey

Bi Rite's coffee is the best I've ever had. Only $5.99 a pound, what a deal. I also love the meatloaf.....

Ok aside from the organic offerings being skimpy this is a darling and wonderful market. The deli counter is wonderful - do try their own smoked salmon. Mama Bi - Rite Market (Sam's mother) is a darling and a great cook I remember Sam from Cafe Du Monde and sorely miss it.

Pros: great deli, great wines, good condiments

Cons: not enough organic

A great place to pick up the perfect items for a picnic or wine and cheese party -- the pre-made foods are fantastic, and the produce is always fresh. Sadly, though, I can't afford to go too often -- impulse purchases add up very quickly here.

Pros: Delicious, Great Location, Great Service

Cons: Expensive, Busy

Need proof that the Bay Area's a foodie paradise? Just pick up a wicker basket (no grubby plastic here!) and browse around the displays at Bi Rite. Great buys on French, Italian, Spanish and California wines (most come with snappy staff description cards), artisanal breads, cheeses, spices, olives, ready-to-eat to-go foods and sandwiches, Scharffenberger chocolate, frozen stocks and soups, Ciao Bella gelato, and more!

Organic veggies and a mouthwatering deli counter make this a popular stop for gourmet grocery shoppers.  See the full editorial review.
