Dangerous Neighborhood Blew Our Romantic Date
by tekpr at Citysearch
Driving to Furenzu was an interesting experience and downright dangerous. The reviews on CitySearch said nothing of bringing a weapon for protection as you drive down Adeline. The restaurant was so cute, and looked inviting. But there was NO way I'd get out of my car in that area.
There's room for improvment

Cozy and good service. However, the food is mixed. We ordered 4 dishes--spicy chicken wings, honey ribs, skirt steak, and catch of the day. We love the spicy chicken wings and the honey ribs. Skirt steak was overcooked (charred, to be precise) and bitter (perhaps too much cumin). The catch of the day was a piece of really thin sauteed seabass soaked in white balsamic vinegar. They fish was bony and a bit too greasy for my taste.
Overall, it was just an okay experience. If you are looking for really good Asian food and do not care much about the atmosphere, look elsewhere.
- Pros: Ambience and Service
- Cons: Food

Emeryville restaurant serves Asian-inspired tapas, which often include honey-glazed squids, satay chicken and pork cutlets; sake and soju cocktails are also available.
Nice atmosphere

Great date spot. Very cozy and warm interior. Has that hidden feel to it still. Also, impress your date with a flambe prepared tableside. The dishes were good for the most part. The only one that was off was the marinated tofu. It basically tasted like smoked cheese. Weird, I know. The other dishes were good and the service attentive.
unimaginative food

Many similarities to dishes found in ordinary Chinese restuarants with an unimaginative twist. Diners acquianted with Asain food will be sorely dissappointed with the food.
- Pros: no waiting.
- Cons: not very imaginative
City's Best Kept Secret!
by keesa13 at Citysearch
Last night, I was at Furenzu for the second night in a row. Can't seem to keep away! I wanted to try everything on the menu and everything was absolutely delicious! Geniusly crafted with a very unique combination of flavors. My favorites are the salt and pepper tofu, the duck confit with pureed cauliflower, pasta in a triumverate of flavored caviar: cognac, wasabi and truffles (mmmm!!!!) and the goat cheese pockets. The staff is very attentive and it adds to Furenzu's uber-cozy atmosphere. Yesterday, I had the salmon cakes with a glass each of the Patric Bottex Bugery Cerdon Rose, Prosecco and a Jeune Vignes... they were all fantastic, giving such a splendid summer surprise. Refreshing, light and very delicate in taste. I love the portions which allow you to try a little of everything, just like eating Frech. I highly recommend this destination restaurant. It's a hideaway to be discovered. Ask for the chef! She's the most gracious host.
- Pros: Great ambience. Amazing food. Destination area.
- Cons: You always seem to want more and more!!!
Cozy date atmostphere, creative food needs finessing
by kiwikat at Citysearch
Furenzu has a nice, cozy atmostphere; the candles soften the Asian decor. The service was average -- we only saw the waiter three times: once to take our order, twice to deliver the food, and finally, to collect payment. The drinks were excellent -- we recommend the lychee martini as well as the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The tapas at Furenzu are creative but it's clear they're in need of finessing. The eggplant flatbread was *very* oily, infact all we could taste was the oil it was so drenched. The shrimp nest was good but cumbersome to eat -- the 'nest' was stabbing in all directions (ouch!). The duck tacos (also very oily) were also difficult to eat -- the taco breaks apart in pieces. Overrall, I think the restaurant has potential but at this point I don't think it deserves the 9.0 given by citysearch.
- Pros: ambience, parking, creative cocktails
- Cons: oily food, lackluster service
Culinary sensation!
by crazylikafox at Citysearch
If you enjoy tantalizing your senses then this is the place. With an ambience that is both hip and warm you can easily impress a date or to catch up with a friend. Distinct but original flavor combinations along with texture, aromas and presentation place a focus on the dishes to be enjoyed not gobbled up before they have a chance to be tasted. It is apparent that the chef's intent is to create an experience for the customer and not just fill them to the brim. Besides before you know it you are pleasantly full and can walk out happy not heavy. Bon Appetite! for those who enjoy a full experience of eating for the joy it.
- Pros: Intimate setting, Warm feel, Fast service
- Cons: item availability, music variety
The best food!!
by lisasmithoceanview at Citysearch
The value, food, service, and ambience are incredible. Very romantic with the candle light setting and the mood music in the background. My favorite is the yummy ribs. This a must place to eat. The owner is extremely personable. I would go eat at this restaurant over and over again. Overall rating is a 10!!
- Pros: Ambience , Food
One Word- SUCKED
by samtrang at Citysearch
I'm not sure what the hell the other reviewers are talking about when they rated this resturant. One simple word describes this place- SUCKED! I'm no Iron Chef but the dishes offered at this place are a huge disappointment. Service was average, price was inflated, and the dishes was borderline amateurished. I can barely cook but I would rather eat my own cooking then pay for this stuff. Been there once and will never return. My girlfriend and I walked out of this place wondering how long it will remain open. Needless to say, we went to get Jack in the Crack after this experience.
- Pros: Good Parking
- Cons: Food, Food, Prices
