I've been highlighting my black hair with L'oreal highlighting kits since I was a teen. But after a diastrous series of haircuts (I left my regular stylist and was flitting around) I didn't want to take any chances with hair color. I just wanted everything to go well. I remember reading about Neil and his color wizardry in Allure, and I thought I'd give him a chance. What can I say about Neil? Charming, low-key, respectful. He looked at all the pictures I brought, told me what he thought would look right given what I wanted (trust me — it was a tall and complicated order), and presto, change-o, I looked amazing afterward. (He even talked me into dying my brows — a first — and it was kind of a revelation.) I am going to go back for a haircut soon. If he's anything with scissors as like is with color, I'm going to be a happy camper when I leave. He was on-time, too, which you would think should go without saying but has not been the case for me the past few times I've had my hair cut. This place is professional and Neil (and I'm sure the rest of them) are skilled. Trust me. I've been to them all.

Pros: Masters at color, on-time, friendly, down-to-earth, offer you a drink immediately

Cons: Near the Tenderloin

Just moved out here from Florida about 6 months ago, and have been trying to find a steady hair stylist that can do natural highlights. I found G-Squared and Debra through a friend that has been seeing her for a while and I've always loved her hair, so I thought I would give Debra a try. I am so glad I did! Debra gave me the most natural highlights I have had since my last hair stylist in Florida. I couldn't be happier with the results and I really enjoyed my experience here. Give this salon a try!

Pros: Talented Stylists, decent prices

Cons: Parking can be difficult after 3:00

I was just referred to Neil by my esthetician. He's been doing her hair for years -- and it always looked fabulous. She confessed in a quiet moment that she's actually a natural brown -- I would never have guessed -- she looks the perfect L.A. blonde. In any event, I digress -- I booked with Neil (not easy getting an evening or a weekend appointment) and was pleasantly surprised as his low-key (no drama) demeanor. He looked at the pictures I brought -- gave me recommendations to tweak the cut to better match my face shape -- and went to work. I was nervous at first -- had been going to the same stylist in Palo Alto for years -- but his confidence and re-assuring manner put me at ease. My color turned out beautiful -- I had seen results like this in the movies -- but just thought it was all airbrushing -- and he did it with my hair . . . . a warm chestnut with caramel highlights. No red tones whatsoever. Just perfect! Way better than I could have even imagined. Talent . . . Talent . . .Talent!

Pros: Color Technician, Punctual

Cons: None

I recently moved to the Bay Area. I was in need of a good stylist. Jocelyn is superb! She knows hair. She did a great job on the color and cut. My hair never looked so good. I love my hair thanks to Jocelyn.

I went to see Debra for corrective color. My dark hair was dyed blonde and damaged. She said my hair was too damaged to do anything with my base color, yet she could do highlights and the dark roots would blend in with the blonde highlights and it would look like Jennifer Aniston's after a few visits. After two months of appointments my dark roots were inches long and my hair simply looked like i hadn't seen a colorist in several months. I was not happy and tried to call Debra to discuss ANY other possible options for my hair. (I was even willing to go back to my natural dark brown.) Debra told the receptionist to tell me that she was not comfortable doing anything else with my hair, and now five days before my appointment, i get a letter from GSquared explaining how they "apologize for being unable to meet my hair needs, and therefore will no longer be able to provide services for me and are cancelling further appointments." I am surprised at how i have been treated by this salon. It was not a good experience.

Been bouncing around from salon to salon for a bit, never really finding the perfect stylist. Not that I'm a perfectionist or anything, but for the money I'm paying I want my stylist to listen to what I want and explain to me the basics of what they're doing, why and how much of a dent it's going to put in my bank account. I finally found Debra at G-Squared! She is very professional and personable as well. When I arrived for my appointment, I told her what I wanted, which was kind of a layered cut and I also wanted to get some highlights done to brighten up my look a little bit. Debra told me it would be no problem, and recommended some coloring options. I was a little hesitant, which is understandable with a new stylist, but as Debra worked we chatted and she put me perfectly at ease. She's a total sweetheart! When I was done my hair looked perfect and I rebooked immediately. To top it off, I ended up paying less than I am used to. It was an amazing salon experience, one I was desperately in need of! Thanks Debra!

Pros: Professional yet friendly and very skilled stylists at great prices

Cons: Not the greatest area, but not that bad. Parking is relatively easy, though.

I just moved to SOMA from Marin county and had no clue where to go for a super nifty hair cut in my new neighborhood. The first thing that impressed me was all the great reviews here on citysearch. The second thing that wowed me was late on a Friday afternoon I was able to schedule an appointment for the next morning. The third and most important, was how comfortable I felt in the wonderfully talented and capable hands of Jocelyn. My hair is fine, nearly waist length, super curly, and hadn't been cut in seven months. Not only did she give me a fantastic, fresh, dramatic, and manageable cut in about fifteen minutes, she then gave me an awesome straight style The pricing is totally reasonable for the quality. Only downside is that they are not a full service salon, no waxing etc...I think they should expand their services!!! Nice place with great people.

Pros: great stylists, reasonable prices, mellow environment

Cons: not a full service salon

Not knowing where to go being new in town I looked on Citysearch and found these guys right around the corner.I feel very lucky to have found Jocelyne for color. She is so sweet and easy going and above all talented with her coloring skills. The salon is just right with 5 or 6 stylist I think and everyone seem really nice.

I made an appointment with Jocelyne last week and LOVED her. She is so sweet and easy to talk to and thorough in her consultation. My hair was overcolored from a previous experience and she was able to add dimension and style to it. The salon is very chill with other nice and talented stylist. I felt so relaxed and welcomed. Hooked!!!

Pros: talent,atmospere,stylist

Cons: none

Absolutely the worst experience I have had at a salon to date. The stylists were nice, but that was the only positive thing that came out of my experience. A serious lack of professionalism, skill and communication make this salon highly undesirable. You would think in order to work in the business you would be educated on your subject matter. I guess not. Definitely not recommended. Seek elsewhere.

Pros: Nice receptionist..?

Cons: Price, execution, etc.
