not worth a cent

by syrnik

first impression: RUDE staff! The receptionist who tries to act like she is a high-class snob did not even look up to greet us. Nowhere on their pamphlets or website does it say you HAVE to make an appointment but still the lady looked at my like I was dumb for assuming I could get service that day.

When I finally went or my appointment I paid $70 for a french pedicure! The worst part is that it was NOT even worth it. I've gotten $10 pedicures that look much better. The girl didn't even remove my cuticles!

HORRIBLE place, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

  • Pros: pretty
  • Cons: overpriced, rude staff

Staff is very rude!

by chele_102

I scheduled an appt 2 days b4 my friend's wedding, I even got a confirmation card with the appt listed on it. The spa called me a week b4 my appt and told me that I had missed my appt and that I should have cancelled. I called them back and explained to them that my appt is for next week, the lady starting talking very loud over me and would not listen. She bellowed "I COULD HAVE SCHEDULED SOMEONE ELSE." She also said that they had called me the day before and left a message, but no one called me regarding this appt because I would have corrected their mistake then. I calmly explained again, my appt was the following week that they were mistaken, then she accused me of lying. Seriously why would I schedule my spa treatment so far in advance of the wedding? Then she seemed to finally hear what I was saying and offered to fit my in that day, but not at my scheduled appt time. I politely declined and wished her a pleasant day. I did receive one treatment there previously, it looks nothing like the picture, it's very old and there are webs all over the ceiling. The robes are well-worn, the upside is that it's only for women, the down-side is that the front staff is extremely rude. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Oh, I almost forgot, parking is difficult too.

  • Pros: It's a for women only spa
  • Cons: The front office staff is rude, they don't care about the customers.

Bad Experience

by tsoulsby

I came here for a massage over the summer and it was not what I expected, especially for the price. The cloth covered chairs that you see up in the advertisement there - they were stained with some brown substance on both the backs of the chairs and the footstools. Disgusting, not a relaxation area. The massage was just behind one of those curtains you see in the picture. The massage therapist was friendly, but there was a huge, old, LOUD air conditioner blasting away on and off while I was getting my massage. It was like being in a warehouse.

I just felt icky when I left - not refrereshed or relaxed. I still can't figure out what those stains were on the furniture and I will not be back to find out.

Worst and most expensive pedicure I've ever gotten

by oakelle

Don't waste your money. The description of the pedicure on the website is nothing like what you get. Basically, you put your feet in one of those portable foot bath things from Target. There are no spa chairs. My pedicurist was very rough and distracted. She actually cut one of my cuticles. Even the polish was sloppy. There was absolutely nothing special about the service to warrant the price -- the massage they promised was totally lackluster -- she was completely spaced out when doing it.

I've had much better pedicures from a regular nail shop -- for $20 less.

Won't be back

by cfiedler

I've been at Azul for the past four years, the first time great but each time the experience has been progessive worse. In my second to last time there, I had noticed a man waiting to be massaged, but after my services were done I was sitting with a towel loosely covering me, the staff had brought to the stream bath without even checking if someone was in there. One of the reasons why I liked Azul that it was simply for women and the whole energy of the spa had changed. Finally in my last visit, the receptionist messed up my schedule and had me going to the facial before the message. It seemed that each visit things were looking tired and the desire to make at the customer's expense.

North Berkeley retreat for the mind, body and soul offers specialty baths, facials and massages.

by Contributor

In Short
This spa lives every bit up to its ultramarine name. With large, airy rooms and a color scheme that's simple yet elegant, this place is the epitome of cool and calm. Baths include a milk and honey dip and a botanical mix of herbs and minerals sprinkled in a Victorian tub. Other services include manicures, pedicures, body wraps and massages. Body treatments all include use of the steam room and shower.

Peaceful environment

by papillion

Beautiful spa when I visited last--blue ceiling and nice decor. I had a deep massage and a placid facial. Enjoyed both. Facial had no extractions and used Decleor. Products may have changed, but it's a really nice environment. Plus, it's multicultural, which is fab.

  • Pros: Quiet, Calm, Diverse staff
