Friendly chef!
by nookie
Great nigiri! The sushi chef, Hide-san, is very experienced with fish and really friendly too, so sit at the bar.
Great Sushi at Berkeley's Little Secret
by debratherealtor
At 10th and Camelia Sushi Banzai is a very special place that should be recognized for its food, service, and atmosphere. Visit and Enjoy.
- Pros: Food, Service, and Atmosphere is worth the time and money
AVOID SUSHI BANZAI
by investigatorsprivate
"Food is mediocre at best. The sushi did not seem as fresh as it could be.
I ordered a roll and requested no cucumbers due to an allergy. 10 minutes later it was delivered full of cucumbers to my chagrine and the chef refused to return it.
Service is incompetent and rude. I love Japanese food, lived in Japan for 10 years), and eat out a lot.
There are plenty of good choices in the East Bay for Japanese food. Why choose the worst?"
Probably the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. After living in Japan and experiencing quite a lot of exclusion/rascism, I will not accept being treated that poorly in my native land.
Avoid Sushi Banzai on principle but I'm sure the owner thinks there are a ton of gaijin he can fool.
- Cons: incompetent, rascist, rude
Our new favorite...
by gwilphil
Its easy to see why Sushi Banzai has such dedicated customers. Funny, friendly chef, great service, welcoming atmosphere, and most important - very good sushi. An absolute winner.
- Pros: excellent food, very friendly, easy access
Little resturant hidden in Berkeley
by lilazncivicsi
The food there was great. Wonderful atmosphere. The sushi chef had a lot of funny jokes and very friendly to talk to. The price of the food is overall good. Not too expensive nor cheap. A wonderful small family resturant.
- Pros: wonderful food, best atmosphere
- Cons: no parking, weekends are crowded
Why Go To Kirala?
by rrabinowitz
Seriously, those who voted for Kirala as the best sushi in Berkeley must not have discovered Sushi Banzai. You get great sushi without the wait and the prices are pretty much par for the course. The portions aren't extremely large but the main reason why I go here is for the 69 roll. This is arguably the best roll I ever had and it never ever disappoints.
- Pros: comfy, easy parking, not kirala
- Cons: variety
