Lousy service
by SaraConnorChron
Everytime I go here, I always get treated badly, the only saving grace is their food, which is first rate. But c'mon, in this day and age, with stiff competition everytime, it's time to up their customer service.

BEST BBQ IN THE BAY AREA
by mscaliforniadiva
WE WENT THERE ON SUNDAY, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. I HAD THE RIBS WITH MEDIUM SAUCE. THEY CAME WITH POTATO SALAD AND TWO SLICES OF WHEAT BREAD. THE RIBS WERE VERY TENDER AND DELICIOUS. THE BBQ SAUCE WAS PERFECT AND ITS SORT OF A LITTLE SWEET..
MORE SO A HONEY BBQ SAUCE. THE SERVICE WAS GREAT. WE WAITED ONLY 15 MINUTES AND
ORDER 4 DINNERS. A GOOD FRIEND WITH US HAD THE RIBS AND BEEF. HE THOUGHT IT WAS THE BEST HE EVER TASTED.
ITS DEFINITELY A TAKE-OUT PLACE. TOO SMALL FOR REAL DINNING, UNLESS YOU WANT TO
EAT OUTSIDE ON A PATIO. THE OUTDOOR PATIO TABLES WERE NOT CLEAN. LAST TIP: MAKE SURE TO ORDER EXTRA SAUCE, WHICH COST ONE DOLLAR.
- Pros: THE BBQ IS JUST DELICIOUS.
- Cons: TOO BAD YOU CAN NOT EAT THERE. THE OUTDOOR PATIO TABLES WERE DIRTY.
Yummy

Yummy good BBQ. I could never find good BBQ in the Bay Area until I went to E&J. Sausage with the spicy sauce is the best.
Highly recommended.

Restaurant serves ribs, barbecue beef, chicken along with a variety of sides including potato salad and bread slices.
Another location

There is also another branch location near the Danish Bakery on Telegraph Ave. which has excellent BBQ.
The best BBQ in town
by alfie55
The Bay Area is not known for good BBQ but E&J's is fabulous. I get a beef and link combo almost once a week, which consists of a generous helping of homemade all beef links (the best I've ever had, anywhere!) and slow smoked brisket smothered in your choice of sauces (go with medium because hot is just ridiculous) and served with a side of potato salad and a coue of slices of wheat bread. The salad is pretty standard but compliments the meat well and the sauce is delicious. The service is laid back but friendly and this location is mostly for take-out orders, but the place is full of character and has a very unique feel, at least it does to me. The Jack London Square location offers proper table service and has a full bar, but the service is spotty and the prices at JLS are higher.
Disappointed

I went to E&J in Berkeley at 7:20 on Saturday. The time to get my food was 35+ minutes. That seems way too much considering this is take out and all the food is already cooked. They only have 4 entree items and they were out of brisket. That is very poor planning when a major item is gone that early. I asked for the four way. They weren't willing to substitute another item to replace the brisket.
The only side is potato salad. I asked for two servings but only got one. It was very "vinegary" and covered in barbecue sauce. Their website menu shows more choices. I guess that menu is for the Jack London site but the website doesn't say that.
The ribs were very fatty and the chicken was dry. The portions were small for the price.
I was very disappointed in this place. Not recommended.
Decent Food, very poor service
by rat007
I went their on Sunday, March 7th and had to wait over an hour and a half to get seated. I saw many others before me that were seated first. Not only the wait for the seating was long but for the order and food, and it was not even busy. Do not recommend, it was not worth the food.
- Pros: Price
- Cons: , Long Wait
it's just too good
