Great for takeout

by eck2121

My husband and I frequently get take out from here and really enjoy it. He loves the minced chicken with basil (spicY!) and I tend to mix it up everytime - there are so many interesting things on the menu! I recommend the jlienned chicken with cashews (very clean tasting, big juicy pieces of zuchinni) and the turnip cakes, while definitely different, were quite tasty. The menu also features things like salmon and winter melon curry and "Grilled Ginger marinated New Zealand lamb with sweet carrot & smoked mushroom salad", both which I haven't tried but sounds exotic (and yummy!)

Zesty lemongrass sirloin, mango sticky rice and tall cocktails lure families and chic patrons to this stylish Thai eatery.

Great Atmosphere, and very good food, at a fair price

by maestrokneer

What more can you say? If you're in North Oakland, or south Berkeley and looking for some great Thai food, look no further. I only wish they delivered.

Style Over Substance

by ladridi

Ate at this restaurant last night-not impressed. The food is merely adequate disguised by nice presentation/decor. Many other Thai places offer better food at better prices. You sacrifice a certain amount of style, but I would rather have good food in mediocre surroundings than vice versa.

Papaya salad: too spicy--spice overpowered the flavor of the papaya.

Calimari: undercooked, rubbery.

Rack of lamb: done nicely, very rare with lots of flavor. Very small portion.

Duck curry: substandard--bland and watery.

I am amazed at restaurants that specialize in a specific ethnicity of food but can't do the standards properly. If you go to Soi4's website and go to reviews, the Chronicle says to stay away from the Pad Thai. I'm not so sure about a Thai restaurant that can't make a decent curry or Pad Thai. I'd rather spend $7.95 for a good portion of good curry at a little low-key place.

  • Pros: Stylish
  • Cons: Expensive

Incredible Thai Fusion Cuisine

by callipygian

I've gone to Soi4 dozens pf times and always have a wonderful experience. The wait staff are attentive and friendly, the décor is modern, and romantic, the prices are lower than you might expect, but the real reason I keep going back is the food.

Everything on the menu is incredible. The satay skewers are wonderful. I've tried (and loved) the chicken, beef, eggplant, and squid. I should mention the Indian flat bread, a fresh naan style flatbread that comes with fresh tomato, eggplant, bell peppers all covered in a sweet spicy curry sauce. I order this dish every time. As far as main courses, we've had some great fish, the beef dishes are great, and I still dream about the red-curry-honey-roasted-duck-with-pineapples. Be sure to save room for dessert, because they've got some incredible offerings, including a sweet sticky rice with mango, and fresh berries and Chambord over vanilla ice-cream.

  • Pros: Romantic, Reasonable Prices, GREAT FOOD
  • Cons: usually a wait, parking is tough

Get the Tom Yam

by ihartma

The Tom Yam (AKA Tom Yum, AKA Thai hot & sour) soup is the best I've had outside of Thailand. On a recent trip, we also liked the turnip cakes, pad tofu, and sticky rice with mango for dessert.

  • Pros: spicing, decor, seafood & veggies
