Nice enviorment with friendly waiters ... some wait expected unless off hours. BUT THE POINT IS - that pizza is way too salty and that famous tomato souce on top of the pizza taste like supermarket caned pasta souce, which is very disappointing. The pizza bread is dry and tasteless. It's way worse than my neighborhood pazzeria.

Pros: nice enviornment

Cons: horrible pizza

If you are craving pizza, Zachary’s is the place to go. Fair warning, because of its huge popularity, you may have to wait awhile for a table, but it is totally worth the wait. Insider tip.... order your pizza while you wait. I highly recommend doing this as it does take awhile for the pizza to be baked to perfection. For those of you on the go, you can order pizza by the slice. The menu offers plenty of choices. I ordered the chicken pizza; which topped with baked chicken breast, mushrooms, fresh basil, garlic, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese. It was absolutely delicious!!! I can’t wait to go back and try something else.

Pros: Great atmosphere. Friendly service.

Cons: Parking can be hard to find.

I absolutely love this place. The pizza is excellent, the customer service is friendly and attentive, and the neighborhood is very nice. Everyone I've taken here has fallen in love with the place. I can't say enough good things about Zachary's. I definitely recommend checking it out if you want a great food experience.

Pros: Pizza, Customer Service, Art

I think this place is a great place to get a pie. I have never had a stuffed pizza until Zachary's and now I am asking myself why I have waited so long. The tomatoes they place on the top are so good. The crust of the pizza is crisp and tasty. I live in downtown Oakland and when I want to get a pizza I take a drive to Zachary's. Great stuff you will not regret if you try!

Pros: Stuff Pizza, service

Cons: parking

4/3/07 Ordered a large deep dish sausage, onion, and mushroom, $26 and a thin slice of veggie combo. I came to Oakland just try the pizza. It has received a lot of good mentions, and to me uncooked dough is not properly prepared food. Some may like a gooey uncooked substance, but this standard for me is unacceptable. What should be gooey is the cheese. Unfortunately this is common throughout the west coast. My first bite of the thin slice was at the wide top of the triangle. My first impression was Wow! But as I continued to chew the gumminess started to make itself known. Darn, I checked the crust and it had a gumline of doughiness. The staff did their best to listen and rectify the situation, but the dough was just not coming out right. Apparently this is how they have been making it for years. So who am I to question California's preference for semi cooked dough. Also their dough did not have much taste. This is very apparent on the thin crust. I will say that the sauce is thick and chunky. The cheese is plentiful. The sausage chunks were very tasty, but I wished there was some in every bite. So when comparing them to 90% of the CA pizza joints, their pizza is pretty good due to the quality of ingredients and the staff's eagerness to please. One more note - on the thin crust pizza, they have gotten in the habit of putting the toppings underneath the cheese. On a NY style pizza I am not sure if this is a good idea. You are trapping in the moisture from the veggies which may contribute to the dough not cooking well. You are also trapping in grease from the pepperoni and other meats which if they were on the top, a loving pizza cook will soak off the grease before serving it to you. If you are looking for a good pizza check my other reviews.

Pros: sauce, staff

Cons: dough, parking

I love love love Zachary's pizza. Deep dish chicken and basil. Or deep dish special with bell peppers and sausage. Or deep dish anything! Wish they had more locations so that I didn't have to drive to Oakland for pizza... Sadly I do. But it's worth it!!

I'm all about the half baked pizza's. No waiting in line, no tips (haha), and you can go home and heat it up on your own. The pizza can't get any fresher. Whenever my work brings me by a Zachary's Pizza, I always have to stop by and pick up some dinner. The only thing I don't like is that the phone is usually busy. I don't think they have multiple lines at Zachary's, which is annoying when you're trying to place an order to go. But in all reality, this is the best pizza I've ever had. Yes, it is expensive, but you get 3 meals out of a medium pizza. My girlfriend and I split a medium pizza, and it'll last us dinner, late dinner, and usually to lunch the next day. The only pizza that they have which is not that good is the healthy pizza. Make sure you get deep dish though. There's no reason for going if you don't get a deep dish pizza. Their tomatoe sauce is very unique, by I like the different flavor. Being a foreigner, where I come from, tomatoes are part of almost every meal. Avoid going in the evenings or on the weekends. The lines are crazy. Order to go if possible.

Pros: Pizza... What Else Can I Say

Cons: Phone Line is Almost Always Busy

I had the Zachary's special stuffed pizza (sausage, mushrooms, onions, bell pepper)...too little topping for a combo pizza, IMO. The pizza top layer was covered with crushed tomtatoes and sauce and just too much sauce that it made the pizza too sour to eat. Also, they skimp on the other toppings like sausage, I swear I found only one piece of sausage per slice. They also skimped on the cheese, not enough cheese for a Chicago-style pizza. After waiting one hour for my skimped pie (which costs $30), I'm better off making one myself or having a real one in Chicago.

Cons: sour pizza, long wait, expensive

My family went back up north for New Year's and my boss made me swear to eat here before coming back. We were not dissapointed! Other than the bread (which is more akin to dough as it's so soft!) we were surprised to see the toppings underneath the cheese, and the chunks of tomatoes on top. There wasn't as much sauce as I would've liked, but it was insanely good nonetheless. We made the mistake of ordering two mediums for our family of 4 and were full after the first one. They're HEAVY! But oh so good. Next time I'm back up there I'll definitely swing by. Apparently you can get them half-frozen so you can cook them at home later. We ordered to go and I'm curious to go back and eat there to see how the service is.

Pros: the best pizza in CA

Cons: street parking

Went here in August 2006 had a reasonable wait and the PIZZA was absolutely terrific. Get here early if possible to avoid a long wait. I live in Southern California and wished there was Zachary's in So Cal so I could coompare side by side with Abbott's Pizza

Pros: PIZZA, SERVICE, PIZZA

Cons: long wait if not early
