Best pizza in town
by JonF
Zachary's has some of the best pizza in the world. The deep dish spinach and mushroom is to die for.
Rarely, one receives atrocious service here, but who cares? -- the pizza is just that good
- Pros: food
- Cons: no reservations, long lines on weekend nights
Stuffed Pizza at it's best
by 1tab
Zachary's STUFFED pizza is great. It is not deep dished pizza, it is stuffed. It reminds one of Giordano's, which is the best stuffed pizza in Chicago. They sell thin crust pizza by the slice, but not the stuffed pizza, which I would like to see. Other wise the pizza is the bomb.
- Pros: Great Stuffed Pizza
Best deep dish in the Bay Area!
by DoubleDawg
Legendary deep dishes this side of the Mississippi... try the vegetarian (tomato only) pizza, they are so fresh, cheesy, and delicious. Eat in or take out, both are excellent.
not impress

Well after many years of hearing about this place I ventured to it. I got lucky and had a parking place right in front 10 feet from the door at 1145 am. on a Thursday. I had called in for my order
I saddle up and paid. My stuffed, NOT DEEP DISH, mushroom and pepperoni would be ready in 8 minutes. The people were nice it was clean . A great place for a lunch. Mine was to go. Got it, was heavy Placed inside my car and home in 15 minutes . Opened, still too hot to eat. OK. Wheres the pepperoni . I see some mushrooms. Cooled it off took a bite. WHAT THE THE BIG DEAL. It reminded me of Round Table pizza. I love Round Table. The sauce is tangy lots of herbs. But Round T. have more fresh mushroom and pepperoni. Zach is different , lots of chunky tomatoes...which is nice i guess. BUT ...what is the deal all about ?
Sorry
You all are caught in a marketing type frenzy or something it is not that impressive. Blondie was/ is good pizza. I will try the thin crust next time I am in the 'hood, This is really nothing to be ga ga over
- Pros: Its clean
- Cons: too much tomatoes not enough toppings
Pizza that you can leave out
by scorpionfish
Nice enviorment with friendly waiters ... some wait expected unless off hours. BUT THE POINT IS - that pizza is way too salty and that famous tomato souce on top of the pizza taste like supermarket caned pasta souce, which is very disappointing. The pizza bread is dry and tasteless. It's way worse than my neighborhood pazzeria.
- Pros: nice enviornment
- Cons: horrible pizza
Best Chicago style pizza!
by tulip333
If you are craving pizza, Zachary?s is the place to go. Fair warning, because of its huge popularity, you may have to wait awhile for a table, but it is totally worth the wait. Insider tip.... order your pizza while you wait. I highly recommend doing this as it does take awhile for the pizza to be baked to perfection. For those of you on the go, you can order pizza by the slice.
The menu offers plenty of choices. I ordered the chicken pizza; which topped with baked chicken breast, mushrooms, fresh basil, garlic, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese. It was absolutely delicious!!! I can?t wait to go back and try something else.
- Pros: Great atmosphere. Friendly service.
- Cons: Parking can be hard to find.
Best Pizza Experience
by lamission
I absolutely love this place. The pizza is excellent, the customer service is friendly and attentive, and the neighborhood is very nice. Everyone I've taken here has fallen in love with the place. I can't say enough good things about Zachary's. I definitely recommend checking it out if you want a great food experience.
- Pros: Pizza, Customer Service, Art
Great Pizza! Worth the trip!
by andy4389
I think this place is a great place to get a pie. I have never had a stuffed pizza until Zachary's and now I am asking myself why I have waited so long. The tomatoes they place on the top are so good. The crust of the pizza is crisp and tasty. I live in downtown Oakland and when I want to get a pizza I take a drive to Zachary's.
Great stuff you will not regret if you try!
- Pros: Stuff Pizza, service
- Cons: parking
Dough not to my taste
by wallstpup
4/3/07 Ordered a large deep dish sausage, onion, and mushroom, $26 and a thin slice of veggie combo. I came to Oakland just try the pizza. It has received a lot of good mentions, and to me uncooked dough is not properly prepared food. Some may like a gooey uncooked substance, but this standard for me is unacceptable. What should be gooey is the cheese. Unfortunately this is common throughout the west coast. My first bite of the thin slice was at the wide top of the triangle. My first impression was Wow! But as I continued to chew the gumminess started to make itself known. Darn, I checked the crust and it had a gumline of doughiness. The staff did their best to listen and rectify the situation, but the dough was just not coming out right. Apparently this is how they have been making it for years. So who am I to question California's preference for semi cooked dough. Also their dough did not have much taste. This is very apparent on the thin crust. I will say that the sauce is thick and chunky. The cheese is plentiful. The sausage chunks were very tasty, but I wished there was some in every bite. So when comparing them to 90% of the CA pizza joints, their pizza is pretty good due to the quality of ingredients and the staff's eagerness to please. One more note - on the thin crust pizza, they have gotten in the habit of putting the toppings underneath the cheese. On a NY style pizza I am not sure if this is a good idea. You are trapping in the moisture from the veggies which may contribute to the dough not cooking well. You are also trapping in grease from the pepperoni and other meats which if they were on the top, a loving pizza cook will soak off the grease before serving it to you. If you are looking for a good pizza check my other reviews.
- Pros: sauce, staff
- Cons: dough, parking
Best Pizza I've had!!
by cartrinh
I love love love Zachary's pizza. Deep dish chicken and basil. Or deep dish special with bell peppers and sausage. Or deep dish anything! Wish they had more locations so that I didn't have to drive to Oakland for pizza... Sadly I do. But it's worth it!!
