Good food, HORRIBLY rude and OBNOXIOUS service!
by scarletbohemian
I've been going to Barney's for years. The service was uneven but the burgers were good and I continued to be a customer, until this week! when paying the cashier for my meal, i discovered i put my money in the leatherette binder, but left the paying receipt at my table. leaving for only a minute to retrive my check, i left my sunglasses and a take home order on the counter, in front of the cashier. upon my return, i discovered that the bag containing my 85 year old Mother's burger and order of fries had been picked up, either by mistake, or had been taken by someone intentionally. I was told, it was "not their responsibilty to "guard my food", and they had "saved my sunglasses". I was told that it was too bad, but they were not going to replace the "lost" food. They were so callous and so inconsiderate, I was amazed. Obviously I found this to be rude, obnoxious, and totally lacking in customer service and told them so. Only after a very unpleasant exchange, with diners and others comiserating with me, did they agree to prepare a replacement burger and fries.. I am still shaking my head in disbelief 3 days after this experience. I called to speak to the Owner before posting this, but did not get the courtesy of a response. I shall NOT be going back!
Bland, tasteless, boring-to-average

I don't know what the fuss is about. I'm a vegetarian and liked the various vegetarian burgers offered by Barney's. The food, however, was on the bland side. My veggie burger wasn't any better than TGI Friday's or the Cheesecake Factory (neither of which I would recommend), and the fries (I tried the steak fries, not the curly) -- while very hot, were tasteless. Reasonably good quality ingredients, but something was lost in its execution. Put another way, there was nothing "yummy" about this experience . . . . nothing drawing me to return or to try again. Perhaps the beef, chicken, or turkey burgers are out-of-this world. Ditto for the Wildwood Organic Tofu burger. But, I only tried the garden burger, and my experience was sufficiently uninspiring that I don't see myself venturing down to Barney's again unless I am with other people who adamantly insist on going there. The service was indifferent.
- Pros: Lots of options
- Cons: Food was tasteless and boring; service was indifferent
Great place for the munchies

ORDER THE CURLY FRIES, they are absolutely to die for!
Rudeness astounding even for a burger joint

The food's decent--but I'll never go back. Briefly, the server made a mistake on my order. I can live with that--but she made me feel like it was my fault! When I tried to talk to her, she walked away while I was in mid-sentence. Later, I told her I didnt appreciate her walking away from me in mid-sentence--and she walked away again. Amazingly, I find that she is apparently the manager in charge. When I am paying, I ask her if she is really the manager in charge. She refuses to respond. I ask her if she is not going to respond. She walks away. It could have been a conversation with a five-year-old throwing a temper tantrum! There are too many places to eat in Rockridge to put up with stuff like this.
- Cons: Terrible attitude, Terrible service
Enormous beef, chicken and veggie burgers with inventive twists make this casual mini-chain a California favorite.

In Short
Burgers -- of both the all-beef and meatless variety -- are the name of the game at this highly-trafficked neighborhood eatery. Plain interiors with walls proudly decked in local dining awards take a backseat to huge flame-broiled patties. Destination-themed sandwiches, like the Milano with roasted eggplant, zucchini and tomato pesto sauce and the Baja chicken with avocado, bacon and salsa, are served a la carte. Side orders include deep-fried veggies and steak-cut fries.
Great food all around!!!

Start off with their curly fries, its just so good. Then go straight to their burgers. Basically you won't go wrong with that. There are so many burgers to choose from, I think about 20-30. Prices are good and portions are big. Barneys is a must.
- Pros: Curly Fries, Burgers
Burger me up

Excellent for a quick bite. The fries are some of the best I've ever had, perfect to complement the large selection of amply sized burgers and other sandwiches offered. Selections are creative; unique flavors combine for a good meal.
- Pros: Selection
Bangin' Burgers

The gourmet burgers of Barney's are wonderful! The atmosphere is quaint, yet lively, and the grilled onion rings are fabulous. A must for those who want a meal that is both satisfying and enjoyable.
- Pros: western burger, lemonade, onion rings
- Cons: delayed service

Great food, comfortable and an outstanding value!
This is a "can't miss" for a great burger and outstanding fries. The "people watching" is also terrific!

I absolutely love this place. No place for a vegitarian, though they have good unique fried vegies & fries. Expect to eat a lot.
