Closed for remodeling... :(

by Noratoriou5

Yes, they're closed. And from what I've heard, it's only temporary. At least, I HOPE its only temporary.

  • Pros: Best reggae dance club BY FAR in the east bay
  • Cons: They're currently closed :(

Stange schedule

by duncanwinter

I'm not sure what the schedule is for this place, went a couple times in 2007 while the back area was open and it was a lot of fun. But the past three times I have been it hasn't seemed open. Any Ideas on when this place takes advantage of its great setting and patio areas?

  • Pros: when they are open its fun
  • Cons: seems to be closed a lot of the time

Wall to wall women!

by dilcie

I went to Butta last Sunday for the first time. I had heard about the monthly event but hadn't attended. A friend was visiting from Portland and we decided to check this event out. It was off the hook. The first thing you notice is all the beautiful women of color and not just the kiddies. All ages are represented. The place is crowded but you don't get the crowded feeling. You can hang out on the dance floor which is always full. The music is consistently good. You can lounge on the spacious patio or grab a table inside. There's ample room for everyone. If you like African food, you have to dine in their restaurant. I recommend the fish with rice. I'll be going back next month for sure...

  • Pros: the beautiful women of color
  • Cons: none I could see...

The DJs and bands at this East Bay gem blend reggae, house or soul sounds as you jive under the stars.

by Contributor

The Scene
This lunch stop for burgers and sandwiches transforms into a West African restaurant in the late afternoon before evolving into a full-on bar and nightclub. Depending on the night, you will encounter a down-and-dirty R&B crowd, colorful grown-up ravers or the East Bay's African community.

The Draw
Grab a bottle of Red Stripe or a petite-sized cocktail at the inside bar, then wind through a small, dark room before finding yourself on the back patio, where fashionable decor retains a down-to-earth charm. Wind flows through sheer fabric that drapes over the ample dance floor, while colored lights illuminate thrift-store couches, tables and chairs. The DJs (house to reggae) and live bands (electro to salsa) that perform could raise the roof, if there was one.
