THE MOST AMAZING SELECTION OF DVDs IN THE EAST BAY!!.
Without a doubt the most amazing selection of DVDs in the East Bay!! There are thousands of titles perfectly separated by genre. Each title has its own title card to make finding dvds easy. I am always impressed with the help I receive. Even if the employee has never heard of what I am looking for they will look it up and have even ordered titles I wanted they did not carry.
That is just the new section- The used section is as big as the new! As with any used selection, there will be good days and bad days. This Rasputin location never seems to fail me when I am looking for hard to find & out of print titles.
Sure they have music too. I read a previous review that stated the dvd section is getting bigger while the music section is getting smaller. That is true everywhere! Thanks to downloading & iPods you would have to be insane not to- or Tower, the Wherehouse, etc.
One of the most welcomed surprises I received when I first started shopping there was the price on the new titles. I always knew they had the best price on used but they are actually cheaper on many new titles than several other places I shop. If you are an avid film fan and want to walk into a store loaded with titles you won't find at any other store in the area- Rasputin is the place to go!
Not Music To My Ears.
This used to be an okay record store but recently they have begun to focus more on DVDs. The music section seems to get smaller every time I go there and their used CD selection seems to get worse and worse. They have also raised their prices on the used CDs. The employees are the same as they have always been, indifferent to the customers.
Parking can also be hard to come by on the weekends since they share the parking lot with a dozen other businesses.
The worst of Rasputins. In Berkeley, Rasputin Music is superb - great selection, great prices on used items, excellent variety of genres, loads of imports. The San Lorenzo location is the worst of all locations: Hardly any imports, catered to the rap crowd, horribly loud rap music...Not Hip-hop, but bad rap music. Most of the employees are ridiculous with piss poor taste in music so they are no help. Even rap fans would prefer Berkeley's location to this one. I make a lot of money and was watched closely by a big security guard who stands at the front. I couldn't wait to get the hell out of there! This is a great store if you have bad taste. If you don't have a CD player and want to get bad rap albums on cassette, then this is your store. If you want a great selection and variety, opt for the other locations.
