La Pinata 2 Mexican Restaurant & Tequila Bar

Proudly Serving Fine Mexican Food in the Bay Area Since 1980!

  • Mexican Sunday Brunch
  • Tequila Flights
  • Party Trays/Take Out Available

For over 20 years La Piņata Mexican Restaurants have been the favorite Bay Area destination for great food, great service and festive ambience. The first La Piņata was opened in Hayward by Francisco Javier Guzman in order to offer quality Mexican food. He did it with the unconditional help and support of his wife and brothers. The next generation of Guzmans are working hard on keeping the dream of our parents and uncles alive. We invite you to experience it yourself by visiting our San Leandro location for our weekday lunch specials or Sunday Brunch. Our house Margaritas are made with 2 ounces of 100% Agave Tequila, Agave Nectar and fresh citrus juice. Our Tequila Bar features over 300 (100% Agave) Tequilas, where we offer tequila flights, "Happy Hour" Monday - Friday, and tequila classes & tastings.

I think the other reviewers have this La Pinata mixed up with the one in Hayward. It is the same company, but there are 7 locations. Some large, some small. The hayward one has great food but is often crowded and is very small. The San Leandro one has more to offer. There is a full bar & a large dining room. The menu is expanded from the smaller locations (and costs a little more) it includes not only the mexican fare of the Hayward one, but more Mexican food & American food. You get chips & salsa with your meal, the portions are huge, and it's all pretty tasty. It's not the best mexican food around (I am more partial to small taquerias for my favorite mexican food) but it's one of the best sit down mexican restaurants.

Pros: big portions, good food

This is the best Mexican food I've had in a while and it was at a great price. However, one problem is that this place is small so you may have to wait. And the service wasn't the best. They seemed to just have random employees wander around periodically. I had no idea who the waiter was or the busser, a different person would come by every once in a while.

Pros: great food, inexpensive, good parking

Cons: poor service
