Used to love this place but last night changed my mind!. Last night our party of 4 was seated with another party of 4. We ordered the Filet Mignon which is a lot more pricey then the other parties steak. The chef we had asked how we wanted our steaks cooked, so we all gave him our preference. Medium to Medium well. So he began cooking the steaks, all of them, then he cut each steak up and then he COMBINED ALL OF THEM, so the other party got some of our Filet Mignon and enjoyed it while WE paid the price! Our Lobster was suppose to be Chunky, succulent and flavorful, instead he mangled our tails into itty bitty pieces and they were over cooked and dry. The soy beans were undercooked, he asked if we liked our veggies crispy, without anyone answering her served them up still a bit raw! He was funny and entertaining but where he got his culinary skills is questionable! The gal who took our order tried to tell us what we wanted. We tried to order appetizers and differnt sushi trays to try and she kept saying NO, TO MUCH, NO!! THEN at the end of the meal we all wanted ice cream and she told us NO it didn't come with the meal and we informed her we had money to pay for it! I won't be going back there again!

An Awful Valentine's Day Experience!. What a horrible Valentine's Day experience!! My wife and I made reservations for the evening of Valentine's day a week in advanced. We showed up to the restaurant about 15 minutes early for our reservation and had to fight through a crowd of people just to get to the hostess desk. Apparently they had WAY overbooked their reservations because the lobby of people (no less than 60 people crowded into this lobby) were also waiting for the tables that they had reservations for. All in all we were finally seated around 8:15pm for our 7:00pm reservation!

Once we finally were seated more problems began. The cook was nice, but hardly entertaining. The food itself was tasty, but either the cook, or the person who prepares the food for the trays screwed up. We had ordered an extra order of fried rice with the meal (two bowls for me, since that is my favorite food at Teppan restaurants). Instead of getting two bowls of fried rice though, I ended up with half a bowl after the cook overfilled the bowls of eveyone else at the table (including the 3 year old two seats down)! We asked the waitress to correct this, but the rice she brought out 10 minutes later was lukewarm and bland. I ended up having to send it back.

All in all for what we were charged for the meal (and the drinks we bought at the bar during our interminable wait) I expected a lot more from this place. They might be good on a non-holiday night, but I'm so dissapointed, that I won't be going back to find out.

Yummy & Funny. Our little family has lived in the East Bay for almost 2 years now and often passed by Nijo and thought we would try it but waited for an occasion to come about to do so. So our 5th wedding anniversary was fitting we got a table right away upon walking in, service was great, our chef was entertaining and the food was good. It was a nice atmosphere and a definate "must try" especially for those special occasion it was a treat, the only thing I regret was getting full, I couldn't finish my lobster and sadly had to give it to my husband of 5 years to finish it...hee hee hee...we'll be going back.

Great entertainment and great tasty food!. We loved our chef -- he was fabulous!! It made the meal so fun. It is a bit pricey but the food is really great!! It was nice to sit with other people to and chat. It is a very kid friendly environment -- great for a party too!

When you have a special occasion to celebrate! This is the place!!!. When I saw this restaurant had only a 7.2 review I just HAD to post!! I have been back to this restaurant several times over the years and never once had a bad experience.We have always eaten in the Teppan room-where they cook the food in front of you(it is always amazing and alot of fun to see!).We usually always go for a special occasion,Birthday or Anniversary,we are going tonight for a family birthday again.We always go here when we want to have a different & special dining experience that will not be soon forgotten.
