More than 20 private schools throughout the Western U.S. focus on education from preschool through eighth grade.
great school for rude teachers and administrations
by harker at Citysearch
My son went to challenger school. Good thing is they have good reading program. Rest is pretty bad. They bring on board really low quality indian teachers(who cant speak english very well themselves). Since they accept really low salary( no body else is giving any work). Challenger is purely business, ruthless school. They put the number of kids in a class at the states highest level allowed in a class(1:32). Worst than public schools. I had never seen smile on some of the teachers face. Basically you are paying really high fee for low grade teachers. They are collecting money based on brand name, not on good teacher or facility. Administration is miserable. Stratford is booting them out. Recently challenger closed pomeroy campus, stratford just opened a new branch there. Thats a clear indication of slowly they are loosing business to stratford. Also the teaching is based on 1970 model. If you look at the dvd's, they give to kids for 4 years(preschool), all the actors in that dvd's are dressed like 70's dresses. They never even bother to change the dvds. Their fees are about 50% higher than stratford(17000 vs 12000) for preschool. Send your kid to stratford and extra reading practice, you can send your kids to www dot thereadingclinic dot com, where they give one to one direct training. Still you will save lot of money
- Pros: worst schools in bay area
- Cons: low quality teachers
Challenger School- developmentally inferior, academically superior
by seifsitas at Citysearch
As a teacher and a parent of a pre-school age student I am embarrassed that I sent my child to Challenger. The incredible academic pressure on these little children is in complete contrast to what students can achieve at their developmental level. To expect a 3- or 4-year-old to sit through a 30-minute lesson boggles the mind. And the schools philosophy on individualism will not build teamwork for the future. If you want your child to read and write before they learn to cooperate and share--Challenger is your school!
- Pros: Great drop-off and pick-up routine.
- Cons: Too much academic pressure. Not many credentialed teachers.
