the largest selection of roses in the Bay Area

by princessellem at Citysearch

Man, I hate to do this online, share Regan's, I mean. Next thing you know, all the goodies will be gone and I'm left shopping as if I just went to Sloat Nursery instead, haha!

Seriously folks, they have what, the largest selection of roses in the Bay Area? Sometimes the people are in a good mood, sometimes not, it's cool though, their selection more than makes up for the quirky CS.

I feel CHEATED!

Ok, they have one of the largest or maybe the largest selection of roses in the Bay Area. What bites though is that the roses I bought already had black spot. A little something I only noticed after unfurling the mass tangling of climbing roses I bought from this place. You see, each one comes in this bundle, wound together. There's no way for me to see this when I was at the nursery.

Moreover, we were sold Sterling Silver roses by the nursery person, after we told her we were absolute beginners with roses and needed all the help and advice we could get. After researching on the Internet, I found that this variety has a notoriously picky track record and that most nurseries are actually staying away from selling these because of the bad track record. How disappointing that our salesperson decided not to tell us about this!

We bought $850 worth of plants from this place, as we're very disappointed at the lack of decent service. I called the day after asking about tips on how to get started pruning my espaliered trees and all the salesperson could tell me is that it's very hard to explain over the phone. I should just come over and buy a book. Since I live in San Francisco and they're in Fremont, this is easier said than done. I wasn't looking to become a pruning expert over the phone, just some basics.

I called Roger Reynolds Nursery in Menlo Park and this place took their time explaining the basics to me. Considering I didn't even buy my tree from them, (it's a huge shame I didn't) they've been great.

Stay away from Regan's, I feel CHEATED!

completely rude

What gives?  I was looking for Queen of Sweden David Austin English roses and they didn't have it.  This I find out after searching through all the varieties there, not finding it, and having to flag down an employee of theirs, zooming by on his little motorized cart.  He was completely rude, just said "no, don't have it", and started talking to another guy and an employee near me.

I could only imagine that the other guy may have been there before me by the way the employee already knew about the guy's concern, but good heavens, couldn't this guy throw some pleasantries with that response?  Like maybe amending it to "Sorry, we don't have it in stock.  If you'd like, we can special order it for you, but first, let me finish with this other gentleman's order as he's ahead of you."  I would have been totally ok with that, but to brush me off the way this guy did, was completely and irresponsibly rude!

Starting around 2007, I filled three walls on my backyard with climbing David Austin Graham Thomas English roses, climbing Red Eden, and bushes in front of that of David Austin's Golden Celebration, Charlotte, Jude the Obscure, Molineux, Teasing Georgia and L.D. Braithwaite.

Guess what?  I spent over $4,000 buying those roses alone.  I also bought 20 stephanotis plants for my front yard a while back -- all of which almost immediately died, btw.  I bought 2 more espaliered apple trees, along with countless visits buying fertilizer and amendments for all the high maintenance roses and trees.

I also turned my sister on to this place, and when she revamped her backyard, I helped her select a slew of exotic bamboo, maple trees, topiary trees and a variety of plants for her huge backyard.  One trip alone to this place set her back at least $5,000.

Especially when the weather is good, I always try to stop by this place, buying a little something along the way.  At yesterday's trip, we tried to find more stephanotis, what they had was 1/3 the size of what we originally bought, at virtually the same price.  Not very healthy too!

We searched for gardenias, but found just 2 lousy, lousy and tiny varieties -- no buds no less!  We tried to find peonies, none!

Oh well, I guess the economy has really done a number to this place.  A sad disappointment, with even sadder customer service.  I'm out of here!!!  I'm taking my business to Roger Reynolds instead.  Even though their prices are 2-3 times higher, they at least know to stock their shelves, and more importantly how to treat people.  That's the only thing that makes a difference in the final analysis.  Please keep in mind who keeps your doors open and help you avoid the unemployment line.
