...made a believer out of me!. I thought, "Yeah, everyone thinks they grew up with the world's greatest burgers and shakes," so I went in with a chip on my shoulder. Was I ever wrong. Go there and worship their burgers and shakes and enjoy a step back to home-town American ambiance from a simpler time.

These are really the best burgers and shakes in the Bay Area. Nation's is great, but in a different league.

hidden east bay jem. Old fashion burger, Giant and Juicy, with a old school atmosphere. Reminds me of an something you would see out of Happy Days. Best tasting burgers I have ever found in the East Bay. Friendly staff and huge portions.

A Classic. I've been coming here for burgers since I was five years old, when I used to order the baby burger (1/3 pound), I've sinced moved on the the momma burger 2/3 pounds the recipe hasn't changed a bit. Big, juicy handmade bugers cooked to order with huge baskets of steak fries and some of the best shakes and malts in town. As a matter of fact I think most of the staff has been around since my first visit 20 some years ago as well. Can get busy, but the turnaround is quick and the food is worth the wait if you're in the mood for an all-american burger.

Old'Time Quality & Value. I've relocated from the California Bay Area to Houston, Texas and the meal I miss the most (and both Houston and the S.F. Bay Area has unquestionably great food) is Val's burgers! Made to order--Quality prime beef, ground specially to assure the quality and the steak cut french fries make Val's burger meal better than any other anywhere. Well-done or rare, from the baby burger(1/4 pound) to the papa burger(1 pound), you can top them with your preference: raw or smothered onions, sweet or dill pickle, several type of cheese choices and more. You can travel across the nation looking for a better burger, and, I have, and you will not find a better burger and fries, anywhere. We used to live in Hayward and had visitors from all over the U.S. and they agreed. Val's is the best!

Can't Touch This !. Vals.If you live in the East Bay and do not know this name ,I feel sorry for you.This is THE best burger and shake joint.It's the real deal 50's diner.Not some "made to look like a diner" place. Here are some tips for the newbies so you will look like a Vals Pro.Order your shake as an "all around" , i.e. "i'll have an all around chocolate shake" .It's on the menu so you can read up on it.Also, the vegetable soup is awesome, and so is the clam chowder on Fridays.Order a side of sauteed onions for your burger too. Get there before 5 to beat the crowd or if there are only two of you there is always the counter.What are you wating for ?

Best Burgers Ever!. If you want a burger that would shame In-N-Out or a steak that makes you forget Outback, Val's is the place to go. It's a little tiny hole-in-the-wall type of place that has a vintage diner feel and seriously delicious homestyle cooking for a very reasonable pricetag. We have never been there and not LOVED everything that we ordered. From super-thick shakes served the old-fashioned way, to tasty chili and the ridiculously big Papa Burger, it's all fantastic!

The BEST Burger in the Bay Area. I've been eating Val's Burgers for years! Even though I no longer live in the Bay Area, I still go back for a Val's burger every time I'm in town. You can't find a better burger anywhere. It's small and quaint, and you may have to wait for a table - but the service is great and the food is fantastic. They're fast, but not fast food and you get a lot for your money!

Gotta Love Vals. Val's burgers, fries, milk shakes and banana splits are the very best in the bay area! I cannot understand why In & Out would be ranked number 1!

THE BEST BURGER. Get the mama for regular folks, but if u are really hungry, get the papa. It doesnt look like it when u get it, but these are the best burgers anywhere. Dont drown it with a lot of condiments either. Get a basket of fries to share for 2 people, and make sure u get a milk shake, u will not be disapointed. Get there at or before 5 and u wont have to wait.

Val's Rocks!. Val's should have been number 1. Great char-broiled taste. Would like to see them keep their condiments refrigerated though.
