Hayward >Thai Garden Restaurant
My money is no good here. After reading nothing but great reviews about this restaurant, I knew I had to give it a try. Also, I just recently bought a house 5 minutes away so my girlfriend and I were excited. First off, let me just say that I usually don't care about location, service or ambiance as much as plain ole good food. However, this is the first time in a long time that I didn't even care about the food, but rather was quite upset at the overall service that I received at this restaurant. We ate there on a friday night, and the restaurant had medium capacity. It was by all means not "busy". We sat down, ordered our food and waited. We then waited and waited and waited some more. there were 3 groups of people that sat down after us. and proceeded to order. We didn't think much of it until they all received their food before us. I wondered what the problem was and did notice that all 3 of those customer's were white and we were not. Was it a coincidence? Maybe. But after an hour of waiting, I could not take it anymore, I politely asked the waiter what's going on and he all he said to me was that my food was coming. There was no single apology or anything. I am not a rude person, I didn't cause a scene, I simply paid for my meal and left, promising to never return again. As for the food? I couldn't really tell if it was good or not, I just couldn't focus on it. It definitely wasn't the best or I would have forgotten about the service. I hope the restaurant reads this because they lost themselves a life long customer.
Don't be fooled by the neighborhood.. My husband was the one who found this place and took me there. When we first got to the restaurant, I was very nervous because of the neighborhood, but don't let it turn you away. We've been to many different Thai restaurant near Hayward and this is by far the best. It's very clean, great staff (yes, they will fill up your water glasses), and the food is terrific! I absolutely LOVE the Tom Yum Gai (Thai coconut chicken soup). They also have a great pad thai, which is hard to find, cuz usually they're either tasteless, too sweet, or not spicy enough. We also love their different type of curry dishes.
A pleasant surprise in Hayward.. I was pleasantly surprised to find this wonderful Thai restaurant in Hayward. The service was very friendly and prompt. There were many choices to select from on the menu, and I particulary liked the Pad Thai. If you aren't too full after eating your meal, I recommend the sweet rice and mango for dessert. It was delicious! I am looking forward to dining at this place again so I can try more dishes.
Hidden Gem. This place is my favorite thai place in the Easy Bay. Don't let the surrounding area fool you, the inside has a relaxing ambiance for casual or romantic dining. Try the yellow curry chicken, I get it everytime, its great!
Best Pad Thai.
Shortly after I moved to Hayward, me and my housemates kept finding really great restaurants in the area. This one is no exception. In fact it's one of the best restaurants in Hayward, and one of the best thai restaurants I've been to.
It has a nice but casual atmosphere with friendly staff.
The pad thai and tom ka gai (chicken coconut milk soup) are the best I've had. The fried bananas with coconut ice cream is an amazing desert.
Everything is tasty and it's also resonably priced.
They give you shrimp chips at the beginning of your meal so avoid those if you don't like that kind of thing. I like them okay though.
It's conveniently located across from some discount stores. We have a silly tradition of going to the 99cents only store afterward for a few laughs.
Great food, and service. I ate here December of 2003, and must say that the food was very flavorful. We had praws, satay chicke, soup, lamb with veges, and the best pad thai i've had. The noodles were soft, and the sauce was sweet and creamy...not too heavy, and the right amount of sweetness. The service was very welcoming along with great value.
Great Thai. Hayward isn't exactly known for its great restaurants, but this one is a gem. It has a relaxed, yet romantic atmosphere, flavorful food, and is relatively inexpensive. Highly recommended for dinner. The lighting is soft, but not dim. It has both a bar area, and a dining area.
Rivals just about anything.. One of THE BEST Thai places in the entire Bay, their dishes are all painstakingly prepared, resulting in the freshest, most sophisticated Thai entrees around. The chicken lemon-grass soup is perfectly tangy and rich. Their spicy chicken with eggplant is the best variant on this Thai standard I've ever had, with fresh Japanese eggplant, juicy, tender chicken, vegetables, all bathed in a unique, tangy sauce. Their pad-thai is amazingly fresh, never greasy. The curries are good, quite unique, and they will serve them PAINFULLY hot, but the flavors aren't as rich or lemongrass-y as Royal Thai (San Rafael, my favorite Thai place), or Plearn (Berkeley - awesome curry but little else to recommend it). Still, the freshness of the ingredients and rich flavors warrant serious attention. Unfortunately, this place is off the beaten path in Hayward, but it rivals any Berkeley or SF Thai place, so it's worth the trek.
