Fresh, simple, great sushi. The fish is fresh enough to make non-sushi-lovers love sushi. The ambiance is friendly and non pretentious. Great place.

Freshest sashimi around. My husband and I have been dining at Yusan's for about 2 years now - and I just wish we had discovered it earlier (since I grew up in El Cerrito....). It is easy to call and make a reservation at the sushi bar, the best seat in the house. The owner Yusan is very friendly and leaves most of the sushi bar to Kaz, the best sushi chef around. He is personable, quick, knowledgeable, unflappable and creative - the consommate sushi artist. The fish is always very fresh and delicious. The service all around is great. Try the Japanese beer, very refreshing and light. The regulars at Yusan's sushi bar (of which there are many) will all agree - it's the most artistic and delicious sushi around.

Nice Japanese Restaurant in Downtn. Nowhere. Apart from a ho-hum "neighborhood" in El Cerrito near I-80 and MacDonald Ave. as a mediocre location, I find Yusan to be very good and pretty reasonably priced as Japanese Restaurants go. Food is fresh, well prepared and tasty, ambience is quiet and somewhat reserved on the whole, service is very good. A- overall :)

Authentic Japanese Sushi Bar.. The negative reviews have been written by hakujin that demand large quantities of california trendy sushi. If you are seeking an authentic japanese sushi bar with the absolute freshest sashimi in the east bay, definitely go to Yusan's. If you want an excited sushi chef that fawns over hakujin, go to Benihana's, please!

Excellent!. Yu-San's has the best Sushi in the East Bay. The sushi here is very traditional, so it's not the place if you prefer to eat the highly creative rolls featured in some restaurants. However if you want the freshest and highest quality fish, served in large portions on perfect rice, this is the place. Sushi chef (and owner) Yuzo will only serve fish if it is perfect, thus he sometimes doesn't have any Toro - but when he has Toro it is incredible.

I don't know anything about the rest of the food, since all I've eaten here is sushi.

You must be kidding!. This restaurant is such a disappointment. Lets just say that there was no Uni on Friday! If really like sashimi then you know what I am trying to get at. Also this place does not sell Sake by the bottle. You can't even order sashimi that is not a set dinner on the menu. I can't get toro, hamachi, salmon, mirugai, etc. sashimi appetizers. You want variety? Forget about it! No creative American style rolls like dragon rolls. Thumbs down a real disappoinment. Please don't make the mistake of driving to El Cerrito to try this restaurant like I did.
