Fresh, simple, great sushi

The fish is fresh enough to make non-sushi-lovers love sushi. The ambiance is friendly and non pretentious. Great place.
- Pros: fresh fish, nice ambiance
- Cons: location
Freshest sashimi around
by janisan at Citysearch
My husband and I have been dining at Yusan's for about 2 years now - and I just wish we had discovered it earlier (since I grew up in El Cerrito....). It is easy to call and make a reservation at the sushi bar, the best seat in the house. The owner Yusan is very friendly and leaves most of the sushi bar to Kaz, the best sushi chef around. He is personable, quick, knowledgeable, unflappable and creative - the consommate sushi artist. The fish is always very fresh and delicious. The service all around is great. Try the Japanese beer, very refreshing and light. The regulars at Yusan's sushi bar (of which there are many) will all agree - it's the most artistic and delicious sushi around.
- Pros: fresh fish, friendliness of staff, easy parking
Nice Japanese Restaurant in Downtn. Nowhere
by garthgantu at Citysearch
Apart from a ho-hum "neighborhood" in El Cerrito near I-80 and MacDonald Ave. as a mediocre location, I find Yusan to be very good and pretty reasonably priced as Japanese Restaurants go. Food is fresh, well prepared and tasty, ambience is quiet and somewhat reserved on the whole, service is very good. A- overall :)
