Real Deal. My brother and Japanese sister-in-law were in town and it was our first time here. She realized right away that the workers were speaking Japanese. Thank God it wasn't another Japanese restaurant run by non-Japanese folks she said. We sat in the private room where we could close the doors and shut out the rest of the restaurant. It was very nice and romantic. They ordered tons of sushi and kept saying how delicious everything was. Spicy tuna, salmon w/ avocado and cream cheese, eel w/ cucumber, super white fish, fatty tuna, sea urchin w/ quail egg, deep fried oysters, sea bass. They gobbled it all up! My husband and I don't eat fish too much, so we had tempura and beef, and tempura and sesame chicken. It was delicious. Our entrees came with salad on the plate. The sesame dressing was super. We all shared a few bottles of the cold premium sake. Very smooth and refreshing for a hot summer day. My sister-in-law did the ordering all in Japanese. The waitress was very friendly and we didn't have to ask for anything. She kept refilling our water glasses at the right time. Excellent, excellent, excellent!

wow, what a busy place. I went to suwa's last friday night and this was the first time I had to wait to be seated. I frequent suwa's for lunch t(hey have awesome lunch specials); choose a 3 item bento box lunch for less than $10 is what i'm all about. I've tried just about everything on their menu and they have never let me down. Dinners are more pricey than lunch but the portions are bigger also. They have the best oysters in town, the sesame chicken is to die for, the miso soup is perfect, the sushi slices are the thickest than any other place I've been and fresh. At night the waitresses wear kimonos so it felt like I was back in Japan. A truly traditional Japanese restaurant ran by Japanese owners too! But wow, they are busy so expect to wait a bit on a friday or saturday night!

It was kinda gross. A friend and I went in to Suwa yesterday for lunch - he ordered the tekka don and I had the lunch box with tempura and fried oysters. The tuna in his tekka don was flavorless and there was too much seaweed. My tempura tasted like they used the same oil to fry the oysters - it was pretty gross. The service was acceptable, and our waitron was pleasant, but the ambience was uber-suburban. The green tea was really watery, too.
