Great place for your kids BIRTHDAY. The place is a throw back to a Victorien era with its lamps and booth seating not to mention the railway car. The pasta is good (a 7 out of 10) the servings are big and the choice of toppings is yours; I like the Managers Speacial Half Rich Meat Sauce and Half Brown Butter with Mitz Chesse (the chesse they mix there). I use to go to the one at Jack London Square but it's gone so I drive from Alameda Island to Concord and its worth it.
Kitschy Italian restaurant churns out heaping plates of pasta that won't break the bank..
In Short
Whimsical antiques and decorative items--velvet armchairs, vintage-looking fringed lamps and booths made from iron bedsteads--fill the dining room. The OSF Classics menu offers spaghetti with a choice of mushroom sauce, rich meat sauce, browned butter and feta-like mizithra cheese sauce, and more. Other popular favorites are the baked lasagna--layers of noodles, tomato sauce and four kinds of cheese--and the fettuccine Alfredo. Meals include a green salad, fresh-baked bread and ice cream.
Terrible Italian but cheap. If you love good Italian you won't like this place BUT if you just want cheap Italian this would work.
Family Atmosphere... One Of My Favorite Places To Eat. I have had bad service from here before, but not so bad that it tainted my opinion of the place, I felt the other reviews were a bit harsh. One guy said it took him 20 minutes to get his food... Well I have to say 20 Minutes is fair timing for an extreamly busy italian resturant!!! I think the prices are fair. You get Salad, a never ending supply of Fresh Baked Bread with both Garlic Butter and Regular your Entree and then Ice cream at the end for dessert. All of this for an average price of $9.50 per person... I like this place and will forever be a patron.
Cheap, but not worth it - rather eat take out pizza!. The last time I went to OSF was 5+ years ago and my memory of it wasn't so great. I remember it being not all that delicious. But, I was in town and some friends decided to give it a try again. We should have stuck to my gut instinct from my previous experience! Definitely not a recommended place! I ordered the baked lasagna, my friends - ravioli and spaghetti. The main course took FOREVER to come. 20 minutes from the time we got our salads. During these 20 minutes, we also got 3 different servers! Unheard of! 3 different servers and no food! By the time our food came, we were already tired of waiting. The food was bland and there was nothing special about it. Not worth waiting 20 minutes for. My "baked" lasagna didn't seem baked at all. Just layers of pasta thrown together with sauce. No melting, hard cheese on top, which is the best part of the lasagna! Definitely disappointed and would never go back...ever again.
Big on size, not so on taste.
I've tasted better pastas in restaurants not even specializing in Italian fare or pasta. The taste is not exceptional but it's ok as pasta goes.
The only positive point I experienced was that the servings are quite large. Enough to fill you up and then bring home for another meal.
Reception varies depending on who's at the reception desk. No problems with service. Seating usually is not a problem because the place is big.
Ambiance-wise, the railroad theme tables and chairs is interesting at first but the novelty wears off after subsequent visits.
