The Scene
Walking into Ambiance is like entering a warm cave, if that cave had maroon and pink patterns lining the walls. Racks of retro-style dresses, embroidered sweaters and plaid skirts fill this trendy boutique. Ambiance is a must for ladies on a sensible budget. The helpful and well-dressed staff will steer you in the right direction if you look lost, and the dressing rooms are well-lit and comfy. Make sure to hit the back of the store, where a nice variety of sales items lurk.
The Goods
In the push and jumble of a Saturday afternoon, Ambiance can become a bit of a hassle. There isn't much room to maneuver, and since the clothes are arranged by color, it can be hard to locate a particular piece. But it's always worth a cruise-through to check out the new outfits, try on a pair of smart-looking shoes or buy a beaded hair clip.

I'm a t-shirt and jeans gal slowly learning to branch out, and shopping at Ambiance is like a dream for me: not only are there all kinds of gorgeous clothes, but the people who work there are really helpful without being pushy. With their help I walked out with several pieces that I never would've found on my own, but somehow were "me." Added plus: nothing I got was more than $75 (though many things in the store cost more). Thanks Ambiance! I'll be back...

Now that Noe Valley Ambiance has the two stores next door to each other, it's my favorite Ambiance in the city. First I go to the regular one on the right and try my luck. If I don't find something good I hit the Ambiance Attic next door which has all SALE stuff. Their stuff is so cute - I never leave without finding something great. And I always go there if I have a special occasion and want to look great.
Pros: pro-selection, pro-atmosphere, pro-staff
Cons: , con-parking tough
