Editorial Review for Beauty Bar – by Camper English

In Short
Beauty Bar is packed with a healthy mix of neatly dressed types who drive into the Mission and uber-trendy hipsters who live in the 'hood. The scene is right for singles, as most people seem to come in same-sex groups. The DJ booth is sensibly located in the back, relieving inevitable weekend congestion. Though the bar is small and the crowds are thick, people always find room to dance.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

Try the green-colored, vodka and Midori-based Prell, and the purple-pink Shampoo, with ingredients you're better off not knowing. The menu changes from time-to-time, so check for new flavors and treatments.

Save Money

Order a $10 cocktail and receive a free manicure (Sat-Sun 7pm-2am).

When to Go

Mission hipsters show up more during midweek, whereas the dressier singles come in on weekends.

as a new resident of san francisco (i just moved here from los angeles), I found hope in finding a great dive bar to compare to my favorite LA bar, Beauty Bar. This one's alright on weekdays, music is great, but good luck even getting to the dance floor on a weekend night. It's so small and really is nothing like Beauty Bar LA. Except for the glitter painted walls and manicures, of course. If you are a frequent visitor of BB LA, you'll be disappointed. BB SF is so much smaller, and lacks the charisma that it's cousin in Hollywood portrays. AND the worst part is, there is no smoking room, which was my favorite part of BB LA. Oh well, I'll continue to go, but you'll never see me there on a weekend.

Pros: photo booth

Cons: too crowded

Small, fun bar. Good dancing, fun music. Good crowd. There is actually a photo booth in the back.

Singles come for the kitsch and stay for the commotion at a kooky Mission bar.  See the full editorial review.
