Editorial Review for Gucci – by Jennifer Howze

In Short
Walking into Gucci is like arriving at the latest downtown hot spot. Dark beauties of both sexes move lissomely about. Museum-like displays highlight strong and simple designs like the well-sculpted handbags, va-va-voom sandals and ever-fabulous Gucci loafers. Whimsical cocktail dresses and ultra-stylish suits prove that "trendy" doesn't have to be a swear word. And shoppers who can't splurge for themselves can indulge the little ones in their lives. Tiny mink-lined hats with earflaps and kitten-soft booties have price tags as (relatively) diminutive as their size.

Insider Tips

Parking

There's no valet service, but Gucci is on Union Square, opposite the park and the city-owned garage below.

Know Before You Go

Take a long lunch and shop during the week if you want to avoid the lookie-loos. But don't count on swinging through after work; closing time is 6pm weeknights.

Save Money

Browse the accessories--sunglasses, watches, even handbags and shoes--and you might find something brand-name beautiful that won't break the bank.

Even if you don't buy anything, it's a must for a label queen/king. Walking inside, you enter another deminsion, the store is always clean, employees are always well dressed and groomed, and are always courteous and helpful. The prices are steep (one shirt cost me $450), but the quality and turned heads are well worth it. Go see this store

Pros: ambience, helpful staff
