Editorial Review for Connecticut Yankee – by Tom Geck

In Short
Boston sports heroes grace the walls and several TVs are mounted near the ceiling. A big-screen TV lives in the back room for more attentive viewers. Aside from being a top-notch sports bar, the Yankee comes alive on weekend nights with live music. Jam bands deliver blues, funk and post-Grateful Dead vibes from a tiny stage. There is no jukebox but the proprietors keep a library of good CDs on hand for background music.

Insider Tips

Look Good

The bar serves tasty pub fare. Dishes are playfully named after sports icons: The Dr. J (Philly cheesesteak), The Larry Birdger (7-ounce burger with fries).

Know Before You Go

Try one of the Yankee's "Cranky Yankee" Bloody Marys. A splash of the "Charles River" makes them delicious.

Where to Sit

San Francisco's fog usually stops short of Potrero Hill, making it the perfect location for the Connecticut Yankee's outdoor beer garden.

I dont know why these other people are baggin on the Yankee, i love it. Have loved it for years, the food is good, the drinks are good, and the vibe is good. Its a sports bar, with 5 flat screens..(im sitting here now, writing this review) good tunes playing... they even have live music a couple nights a week, mostly Fri-Sat night.

I've lived in the city now for 10 years and this has to be one of the worst places I've been to in san francisco. The food is overpriced and horrible. Next time, you're better off going to another place in the area that would have better food and service. In addition to the food being overpriced and horrible, the waitress took a long time before taking our order and bring the food and drinks out. We also watched the wait staff and the manager get into an arugment with customers. Who wants to watch that when you're trying to watch a game? We're better off going to some other place next time. I've never seen a place this bad ever in San Francisco.

Sports, live music and food make this Potrero Hill bar a favorite for locals and ex-New Englanders.  See the full editorial review.
