Editorial Review for Limn – by Carleton Curtis
In Short
Limn, an old English verb meaning to draw or illuminate, could arguably be the best furniture store in the country. Opened in 1981, the SoMa-based store (all 46,000 square feet of it) offers a mix of high-end designer furniture, original artwork and a whole lot of inspiration. You'll find furniture believed only to be found within the pages of a glossy magazine. With an emphasis on the modern, Limn represents more than 500 designers ranging from the retro-future stylings to hand-knotted Tibetan rugs.
Editorial content is independent of paid advertisers. Any expenses are paid for by Citysearch.

Fun FactBolstering the art explosion is Limn's Magazine of International Design (launched in 1998) and Limn's curated art gallery that's adjacent to the showroom.

we had a very similar experience with this store. only, after custom ordering our sofa from italy, it took us (i'm not kidding) 3 years to get it!!! and then, (it gets better) they actually expected us to still want it~you see, at the time of the order, we had the money, no problem but hey, 3 years later, we didn't! we just thought they forgot about us and so didn't trip (they loaned us a sofa after we had waited 6 months! and that sofa because almost ours for those long 3 years...).so, they pulled up a truck and took the loaner sofa away....after the woman on the end of the phone YELLED AT ME FOR 5 MINUTES ABOUT HOW WE HAD TO BUY THE SOFA SINCE WE ORDERED IT....i finallly said, lady, you're yelling at me and you have no right to whatsoever...you people dropped the ball so bad now it's your problem.... honestly, would any business owner think that a customer would wait 3 years for a piece of furniture so necessary as a sofa???? do yourself a favor, and just don't go unless you can have them promise you you won't have this kind of experience that we and the previous reviewer had! don't throw caution to the wind!!! you're been warned....
Pros: beautiful eye candy furniture
Cons: can't seem to buy it and actually receive it! ie, HORRIBLE customer service

A terrible place to buy furniture. We've had nothing but negative experiences. We paid 50% up front for the privilege of waiting 6 months and then never heard from our sales person (they quit and we were never told). They apparently have no data base of orders so you need to go into the store and find your sales person to check on your order. Turns out they forgot to order it so we're looking at 6 more months wait. Their staff don't return calls, don't keep you updated on orders and don't respond to complaints. On top of that the furniture is VERY expensive. How's that for a great place? Their slogan could be "High prices and lousy service!"
Pros: Great high-end modern furniture, large showroom
Cons: Terrible service, high prices, very long wait for goods (6 mos and more)
