Editorial Review for Fog City News – by Joanna Currier
In Short
Owner Adam Smith tidily presents international magazines and gourmet chocolates--no small feat, considering he showcases the Bay Area's widest variety. More than 250 gourmet and imported brands of chocolate, from exotic to traditional and representing six producers from the Bay Area alone, grace his shelves. Mags are layered in more than 200 categories--the shop features 22 different varieties of "Vogue"--and old-fashioned soda pop, electic greeting cards and fine tobacco complete the offerings.

The first time I wandered into Fog City News it seems a bit understated, but it is a sensory overload just waiting to happen. With thousands of magazines from all across the globe and hundreds of chocolate bars that reach just as far, Fog City is just full of tid bits and morsels to please your sight, touch, smell, and palate. And for your hearing be sure to strike up a conversation with the staff, the entirety of which is made up of art students from the Bay Area. In addition to all the chocolate and magazines I'm pretty hooked on the glass bottled root beer in the soda cooler. They also carry my favorite brand of cigarillos along with quite a few other tobacco products.

In addition to being a source of all kinds of wonderful chocolate and other sweets from around the world, this store has an excellent selection of magazines. They also have a selection of off-beat, non-Hallmark greeting cards. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. And if you buy 10 different chocolate bars, you get one free! Not hard to do because there are so many to try. Exotic - try Dark chocolate with peppercorns curry? Traditional - try the many varieties of bars with almonds or hazelnuts.
Pros: Accessible, Friendly
