Editorial Review for Mount Rose – by Ken Castle

In Short
The summit offers sweeping views of Reno, Washoe Valley and Lake Tahoe. On stormy days, the steep, winding access road can be hazardous, and may close. Snowmaking equipment was installed on the main base and nearby beginner slopes. Intermediates will find enough to keep them occupied, but the area is best known for its challenging advanced runs, which require sharp edges. The "Chutes" features challenging black and double-black diamond runs.

Insider Tips

The Extras

Mount Rose is only a stone's throw away from downtown Reno, self-proclaimed "Biggest Little City in the World." Hotels, casinos and restaurants abound.

Parking

Parking can be a problem. If you stay in Reno, take a shuttle to the mountain. Call (800) 822-6009 for reservations.

Know Before You Go

There's good beginner terrain from the two lower chairlifts at Rose, but none in the East Bowl. The ski season varies, so call ahead before planning a late- or early-season trip.

User Reviews for Mount Rose

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

11/12/2002 Posted by haggarse

Mount Rose has only one flaw, and that flaw affects all the resorts at Lake Tahoe: wind. The snow and skiing/snowboarding is phenomenal, I tend to prefer the east bowl however, less people, better powder, and advanced runs. You can get a season's pass to Mt. Rose for $200--not kidding. Rose is truly a fun place to go and ski for cheap--without sacrificing any of the amenities.

Pros: Good Parking, Inexpensive, Fun people

Cons: Windy
