Family Dinner. We went to Kincaids because we didn't want to battle the traffic and the parking in SF. The bar has a nice local vibe with flat screen tvs and breath taking views of the bay. I noticed many people eating dinner there too. My family was seated by a window, so we were able to look at the views of the bay and the city, if you go I would try to reserve a window table. Our service was fine but it took a little long for our food to arrive. It took 10 minutes for our waiter just to bring our bread. All the dishes were good but not spectacular. My mothers dish was the best ...the seafood, lobster pie. Very tasty and flavorful ! The crust was light and there were nice pieces of lobster in it. My father had the breaded scallops and liked them very much. I had the seafood , pasta with shrimp and scallops. The cream sause was a little to heavey for my liking and I asked for light sauce too. Overall, the food is good but the ambiance is a little too quiet. This place would be good for a romantic dinner or if you want to be more casual I would recommend eating in the bar area. If you want a nice seafood dinner and not battle the city this is a good place to go. I also heard the Early Bird special is wonderful Mon - Friday.
Not the best, but not bad. Each time I have been there I have gotten the table that I have wanted. (It helps that the host has a good memory and knows where I like to sit.) It's best to go in the evening so that you can see the beautiful sunset. Dinnertime is busy; lunchtime is not. It's nice to have a quiet lunch there. Service varies. Nobody is rude, but for what I pay, I would expect more professionalism. Several times it seemed as if the waiter was a newly hired student. However, I do believe the staff works hard to try to please. Once my friend's steak was overcooked(he requested rare) and it was no problem having it sent back and another served. The waiter was apologetic and the restaurant offered free dessert in compensation for the inconvenience. The food is really nothing to rave about. Basically, I think we are paying for the view.
GREAT!!!!. In the top 3 in my book. Excellent food and service every time we've been there. Busy and you do have to wait for a table. But the end result is worth every second. From the front door to the last crumb we were treated like it was an evening for just us!!! Even with the crowd, you still have the sense of privacy you wuold like to have on an occassion like this. We've even gotten our "special" table each visit with no problem nor extra wait. Expensive yes. But we have never left thinking it was $ unwisely spent.
Steak and seafood served along Jack London Square's prime waterfront..
In Short
Wood furniture, booth seating and floor-to-ceiling windows create a romantic atmosphere for diners to enjoy sweeping bay views. A mix of older couples and families come for prime cuts of steak and fresh catches of the day. Starters include the signature clam chowder from an 1885 recipe made with rich cream, dry white wine and chopped clams. Seafood salads, crab cakes, steaks, lamb and burgers are also available.
good food, service lacking.
I have eaten at Kincaids many times and have enjoyed the food, (their special steaks, Nebraska-wood grilled, especially), but have found the service dissapointing a number of times. I can excuse one mistake, (the drinks were wrong twice), but when the server insists they know the menu, the order was specific and the requested meal is wrong twice, I lose my appetite. Even though I will miss the items on their menu I crave, I will not submit myself to the lack of respect their service shows.
I will try their sister restaurants, Skates in Berkeley and there is one in the San Leandro Marina, I believe, but watch out and complain immediately if you're not being served properly. I don't know about you, but when I go out to dinner, and spend my hard earned money, I want to enjoy the service as well as the meal.
