Great Place!.
Bocanova's has a great atmosphere, although a bit noisy inside! I would have given this restaurant 5 stars, but unfortunately we had the worst waiter, who never looked us in the eyes and appeared to be full of himself!
Great selection of wines and cocktails were delicious too!
We enjoyed the Peruvian black olives and guasaca sauce for starters! We also had the halibut ceviche, which unfortunately had a bit of a fishy taste to it! We then moved on to an incredible quinoa salad, which had perfectly cooked shrimp and red beets! For our entrees we had the Peruvian chicken and the steak with chimichurri sauce, with a side of sweet potato and chipotle gratin! All in all, the meal was really enjoyable and a great "Pan-American" experience! What wasn't perfect was our waiter who thought he was God's gift to the world!
Citysearch Editorial Review. It's about time Oakland better utilized it's position as a picturesque seaport, and Bocanova, sure to be a marquee restaurant in the Jack London Square waterfront area, is a eat+drink+view triple threat in the same way SF's La Mar, Waterbar and Slanted Door are. Billed as a "pan-American" eatery, Bocanova covers cuisine (mostly in the form of shareable dishes to be eaten family-style) from North, Central and South America. The loose terminology allows them to offer such contrasting small plates as halibut ceviche, beef empanadas, Cesar salad, turkey gumbo and New York strip steak--a concept that works in this cavernous, simply designed restaurant. Seating options range from a communal table (perfect for large parties with a big order), to bar seating near the open kitchen (ideal for snacks and selections from the innovative cocktail list), to spots on the roomy waterfront patio (obviously the best for enjoying that pictorial harbor view).
