Asian street food finds a home at this Oakland lunch spot.. Traditional Asian street food--complex, flavorful food meant for quick, on-the-go eating--is brought indoors and California-fied here for a lovely Oakland lunch option. The downtown spot is sleek and bright, with a low-ceilinged, mezzanine dining room furnished a la Ikea and punctuated with subtle art. High-end (but low-priced) versions of street food items are categorized by noodle, rice bowl, salad and soup, as well as “favorites” such as banh mi, lettuce wraps and grilled fish. Portions are heaped with local, organic and sustainably farmed ingredients and sauces are super infused with citrus, herbs and spice (basil-cashew pesto, sambal aioli, house-made curries). Add proteins to any dish---tofu, lemongrass chicken, Thai beef, prawns or fish---or leave it veggie; this is Cali, after all.
