What People Are Saying About Trappist

In Short – Pouring is an art form at this European-style pub, which claims, "No big corporate beer." With more than 130 Belgian and specialty micro-brews on the menu, even regulars turn to the knowledgeable bartenders, who fill, skim, rinse and serve with grace--and always in the appropriate glass. Were it not for the Oakland hipsters packed into every corner, the Trappist monks themselves would likely feel at home here among the rows of artisan ales.
I like beer
by alecschweikert at Citysearch
The trappist is a great place to go with a FEW friends, but not have a party. It's chill and has great beer, but don't expect to stay past 9 pm.
- Pros: more beer choices than you've ever seen
- Cons: no room to sit or otherwise be comfortable
Great Belgian ales
by jjlasne at Citysearch
This is a small, narrow pub with some barrel tables in the back. Great - and expensive - Belgian ales are available from the bar. Small cheese and salami plates are also offered. It is crowded and noisy and don' t even think ordering wine here...
- Pros: Great Belgian and European ales
- Cons: Small and therefore crowded
The Details on Trappist
Look Good:
The Trappist serves each beer at an ideal temperature for bringing out subtle flavors. If that's too warm for you, ask for yours chilled, but beware the scornful looks.
Where to Sit:
Seating is limited, but there's a high turnover at the bar, so it pays to order a glass and hover.
