Editorial Review for I-Spa – by Lorraine Sanders

In Short
This sixth-floor enclave for indulgence greets guests with a serene, streamlined reception area, which gives way to plush locker rooms housing steam rooms, saunas and whirlpools. Clients disappear into one of 10 rooms for offerings like the rejuvenating Traveler's Tonic massage or the detoxifying Ayurvedic balancingtreatment. All skin care services are performed using MURAD products. Complimentary use of hotel fitness equipment, heated sky terrace and the indoor pool add to the intrigue.

I have been to numerous spa's and I believe my experience here was top notch. The knowledable staff helped me in choosing a personalized service just for me. I decided to go with the "Travelers Tonic Massage" because it was a combo of all the good stuff IE swedish, deep tissue, and aromatherapy. My arrival was friendly and direct. Much to my liking. After filling out my intake form I was escourted to the ladies locker room and given a brief tour. The shower was amazing. I do admit I was too chicken to try it but I will next time. When I was changing I was greated by a friendly attendant who later made me tea and offered me a warm neck wrap. Deluxe. My massage was just what I was looking for....light in area's; deep in others. When I was on my way out my therapist, Megan, recommended a Jet Lag Salt/Oil combo. I didn't feel pressured to buy it, so I did! I have been using it in the shower together as a scrub. I love multi purpose. All in all I would recommend this to my friends and will be returning. San Francisco is lucky to have this fresh new addition.

Excellent environment. The I-Spa has beautiful floor to ceiling windows, with an unfortunate view of Howard St. Fortunately I spent most of the therapy session face down so I didn't really notice much in the outside world. The staff was warm and welcoming when I arrived for my Deep Tissue Massage. My massage therapist was a polite young woman named Jaime who promptly set to work on my lower back (which has been destroyed by years of business travel). Halfway through the Deep Tissue session Jaime offered to try some acupressure on me when I made mention of headaches. I have no clue what she did but my head hasn't felt this clear in years. After my time was up I truly didn't want to leave. I am definitely coming back for a massage and to check out the Vichy Rain Shower treatments the next time I need to relax and unwind from my business travels.

Pros: Great staff, knowledgable therapist, excellent location

Cons: They wouldn't let me spend the night in the spa
