After waiting in line for half an hour, I was ready to call it quits and pick up a tub of Dryers from Safeway. I'm really glad I held out and tried their burnt caramel!

You'll never want another standard vanilla cone.. Before you even attempt to stop by Ici for an after-dinner treat, you must embrace the fact that on balmy Berkeley evenings the wait can be 45 minutes--easily. The slow-moving ice cream parlor is almost always packed with Cal students, neighborhood moms with tots in tow and the odd San Franciscan who is willing to drive (and then wait) for one of the shop's legendary chocolate-filled cones. But the cone is only the beginning--first choose one of 11 flavors made sustainably, organically and in small batches in-house, with gourmet flavors like candied Meyer lemon, burnt caramel, rose pistachio, Earl Grey and more. In addition to the standard scoops, the pastel-hued store also makes ice cream sandwiches, dome-shaped cakes called "bombes," cookies and candied treats like peanut brittle, marshmallows and meringues. Just be prepared to eat your goods on the run, as there isn't much in the way of seating and even standing around can be problematic with the crowds.

Best Ice Cream Ever...Really Really. So here I am at 8:00 PM on a Sunday in search of chocolate. Not just any chocolate, mind you, but good chocolate. Expensive chocolate with hints of exotic spices and far off lands in it. I'm driving down college and I see this shop with at least 30 people lined up outside and it says Ici. I have a few errands to run so I pass by thinking to myself all the while, that if I don't find chocolate, I'll come back. Boy am I glad I didn't find chocolate! I waited in line for 40 minutes and it was worth every second of it. I sampled the honey almond and it was better than anything I expected. The burnt caramel was out of this world and the chocolate ... wow! I can't recommend it enough.
