KOO

Non- traditional fusion menu featuring innovative sushi creations.

  • Japanese cuisine
  • Fresh sushi
  • Friendly staff

What is "KOO"?

Koo is informed and masculine way of expressing "to eat" in Japanese. To Japanese people, it would be more natural to spell the word "ku" but "KOO" gives a more charming impression.

Our non-traditional fusion menu features innovative sushi creations and an extensive variety of salads, shared plates, sashimi and hand rolls. Premium sakes, wine and beer complement the playful cuisine.

Editorial Review for KOO – by Daniel Liszt

The Scene
Beneath a plum-colored ceiling, wood beams and hanging lamps, neighborhood couples settle into booths and banquettes. Soft-volume jazz fills the air; modern Japanese prints adorn sand-colored walls. Rotating servers attend to orders in the main room, while an auxiliary space is filled with a sushi bar and handful of seats across from the chef.

The Food
Toyko-trained Kiyoshi Hayakawa has worked at some of the Bay Area's most noteworthy destinations, including Sausalito's Sushi Ran. Traditional nigiri is available--the gem being light-pink-and-white-marbled hamachi--but adventure seekers will marvel at warm inspirations, like the kooky Cajun hand roll or the aptly named Best Roll: warm tempura and crispy asparagus covered with a salmon and lemon cloth. For a spicy kick, the Flying Kamikaze pairs two types of tuna with a ponzu topping. Skip the mayo-heavy California and save room for the divine, homemade chocolate pyramid cake filled with white mousse.

User Reviews for KOO

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

They had fresh fish, fast service and excellent creative rolls. The ambiance is definitely romantic, more for couples on dates not for families or kids at all. The sushi bar only had room for 6 people so if you want to sit there, you should make reservations in advance. Their staff is friendly and fast - and sushi chefs were very attentive and although very diligent in making the sushi, also very quick. Also quite a good Sake list.

Pros: Excellent service and food

Cons: None

i work near by and have always wanted to try this place because of the reviews. so i brought my boyfriend there the other night and really loved the food. the place is romantic but is also good for a group of 8. All the tables are candle lit which give this small cozy restaurant a nice ambience. Food is excellent from the sushi to the shared plates and price is not bad at all. They also give good portion sizes for their dishes. For the two of us it came to about 60 bucks. Can't wait to go back again to try the rest of the menu.
