extraordinary rudeness.
Yesterday, my wife called the Hotel Mac Restaurant to ask whether they were doing something special for Valentine's Day. The person who answered the phone said: "Yeah, we're staying open, and we're not raising our prices."
Someone in the background laughed.
We went to Zazie, in San Francisco, for brunch. Everything about Zazie was wonderful.
It was reasonable to ask the Hotel Mac Restaurant about Valentine's Day. I have called before, asked exactly the same question, and learned that they were having a special brunch or dinner.
In most e-mail advertisements that the Restaurant sends out, the words "Sincerely, Andrew Burnett" are at the bottom. I called today, thinking that Mr. Burnett might want to know about the call yesterday.
This is exactly how the call went:
Hi, may I speak with Mr. Burnett?
This is Mr. Burnett speaking.
Hi, Mr. Burnett. My name is Paul Wilson. I wanted to let you know about a situation yesterday ...
Mr. Wilson, you're calling a restaurant right in the middle of lunch!
Oh, well, I ...
He hung up on me.
Terrible food. I ordered lamb chops extremely rare, I got medium and tough on a bed of lumpy, tasteless mashed potatoes and an overcooked vegetable I couldn't identify, zucchini? My husband is not a picky eater, he ordered the pork loin, it was about 1/4" thick and cooked to the consistency of shoe leather, he had a green veggie none of us could identify, one said it was cooked lettuce, I tasted it and it was so salty I had to remove it from my mouth, we asked the cook what it was, he said swiss chard, I'd have never guessed that. He said it was the worst meal he's ever had. My 4 raw oysters were fine and reasonably priced, $2.00 each. This is my sister-in-law's favorite restaurant in the whole world. This is a restaurant I will never go back to. If you like old world charm and less than mediocre food, this is the place for you. But I say beware.
Very Comfortable And Charming. The private wine cellar for intimate/romantic dinners. You can reserve this anytime you please and they give you about 2 hours and nobody else other than your wait staff is in the room with you. It is a very nice treat. It doesn't cost extra. Extensive menu from standard beef items, like steaks, prime rib, normally a catch of the day, a selection of different pastas, chicken. Normal fare
Editorial Review. Traditional American fare shares a menu with seafood linguine, fish tacos and chicken cordon bleu at this long-standing hotel restaurant.
