Pretty darned close to Brooklyn's best............ I grew up eating NYC's finest pizzas and this comes very, very close..............the toppings, though, enhance the experience. Raddicio and gorganzola!!! Ricotta and asparagus!!!

Will, the owner, is a Brooklyn boy and even without the water (they always credit the water-those New Yorkers), this is yummy stuff!

If you're looking for the flavors (the bubbles in the crust - the runny olive oil) you miss from ole New York - this is the best you'll find in Northern California!

Better than "real" New York pizza. Props to Arinell, but I truly believe this is the best pizza-by-the-slice I've ever had. (There is plenty of gourmet pizza to be had in restaurants, but slice-able pizza in the Bay Area is almost uniformly terrible. Gioia takes the best of New York - thin crust, bright, not too sweet tomato sauce - and combines it with Berkeley - impeccably sourced ingredients , beautifully balanced toppings (silvery anchovies and strips of chili) organic everything, Chez Panisse blah blah blah....and gets it just right. I wish he'd open a store in the city.

The Best Pizza. Gioia's opened only a short time ago and became an instant hit in the neighborhood. Why? Because it's the best, the only one with real sauce and the right proportion of cheese to sauce. And thin crispy crust.

For those of you raised on fake California pizza with sauce sweet from the can, maybe this will show you what pizza can be like.

Unfortunately, only a few stools at a counter and a bench outside--not a great eat-in experience.
