Overpriced & Underwhelming.
I don't know if friends of the owner are writing the reviews or what, because the reviews are so over the top complimentary it makes me extremely suspicious.
Anyway, lets start with the food: You would be better off ordering the take away at a supermarket than eating here, and it would cost 1/3 of what you would pay at this shameless restaurant.
The calamari was presented in a French Fri cone, letting all the grease drip out onto the table. Not to mention within the cone was a nest of full-bodied squid with long legs…it was disgusting. I expect to find a few of these creatures mingled in with the regular circular variety, but not the entire platter. My friend ordered a salad, which was basically a bag of spinach thrown into a bowl. The baked calamari’s sauce was weak and the filling was frozen or rancid, hard to tell.
Regarding the overall atmosphere, the main host/manager was wearing jeans and a faded brown polo. I’m sorry but even if it is casual dining, can we please try to be a little professional? He was the only “waiter” serving a surprisingly busy restaurant. The décor was cheap with a terrible color scheme.
Please save your money and avoid this place.
amazing vegan breakfast. It is SO hard to find a good vegan breakfast place that doesn't follow the standard 'tofu scramble'. Fellini's is quite possibly the best vegan breakfast place I've been yet. It is also a great place to take a family who eats the standard breakfast fare as the menu is divided into two, half vegetarian/vegan and the other half has local, organic meats and plenty of carnivore options. The vegan pesto scramble is to.die.for and the potatoes are straight up awesome.
Excellent restaurant. I ate there for the first time this evening, and my experience was really great! Everything I ordered was just perfect!! I had the half order Caesar salad, and it was more than plenty for 1 person. Then I had the pasta with pasta shells, tomatoes, spinach, and blue cheese sauce. To drink, I had Limonata, a San Pellegrino soda, and lastly for dessert, I had the bread pudding. Absolutely delicious!! I noticed at tables nearby that were having pizza, that it looked fantastic! That is what I am going to have next time I eat there. The only minus is the noise level. It was a little difficult to hear the waiter, but I didn't have any problem. They were very attentive in filling up your water glass. Also, the waiter came back periodically to ask how my meal was, but didn't overdo it like some places that ask you every five minutes. My recommendation is to sit in an area where it is less noisy so you can have a decent conversation with the others in your party. I highly recommend it!!
Avoid the dinner rush, waiter was unattentive. I followed Citysearch's recommendation to Berkeley's Fellini. It was right in the middle of their dinner rush and we were seated right next to the door that separates the dishwashing area from the dining area. At first, the waiter was attentive and took our order or pizza, garlic bread, and pasta quickly. We waited about 15 minutes, and our food arrived. The pizza was warm and tasty-thin crust. The garlic bread was crispy and warm. The pasta was for our 3 year old and she ate it up. Lots of organic, vegan choices. After dinner was served, we waited to order desert (it looked good coming out of the kitchen), but we had to wait about 20 minutes before the waiter arrived again, we decided not to have it. So, our experience was mixed. Good food, but not worth the wait for our check. I would not go there again.
Editorial Review. With seasonal dishes and vegetarian options, Italian spot brings modern European style to Berkeley.
Great vegetarian brunch with no wait!. It's hard to find a good weekend brunch spot without a wait in Berkeley. I've never had to wait at Fellini and it's very tasty with plenty of vegan, vegetarian, and meat-eater options. Love the egg dishes but the vegan benedicts are a little weird as they are basically just chopped tofu over an english muffin covered in a vegan hollandaise. It's nice to have vegan options though! They also use all vegan pans for vegan dishes -- great if you're with someone who's hard core about that stuff.
Great Time at Fellini's.
This place is really a diamond in the rough! A great fairly unknown authentic Italian place in Berkeley. I've eaten both breakfast and dinner there and it is amazing... The pizza is some of the best I've had in the East Bay. Also highly recommended are the pastas. On Monday nights they have a wine special - all bottles are under $10!
Also, try the Fellini's Coffee House on Saturday or Sundays... Their coffee is out of this world...
Fellini is great. I just had dinner at Fellini with 15 of my friends and we all loved it. I am from the same neighborhood and eat there a lot. It's inexpensive, the servers are friendly and hip, the ambiance is original and artsy and the food portions will never leave you hungry when you're finished.
