In Short
Housed inside Azalea, a high-end Hayes Valley clothing boutique, this small nail studio offers a limited menu of services for the hands and feet. Bordeaux-colored walls, low lighting and bamboo furnishings, such as low-slung pedicure chairs, create a rich Eastern ambience for the well-to-do clientele. Manicures range from basic polish changes to the signature Z Manicure with cuticle trimming, nail shaping and a hand massage. Feet are pampered with sports, coconut and ultimate spa pedicures.

I have to always be on guard at this place. I have been duped before into getting service "upgrade$" - one time I was asked if I wanted nice-smelling lotion instead of the regular nice-smelling lotion. I said "no" at first but was heavily pressured into taking the 'nicer smelling' stuff. Didn't care either way, until I paid my bill and it was $20 more than what I was expecting. It's not sound business to trick your customers into upgrading their service. The time to do that is when a person is checking in for their appointment - it is then the cashier has a chance to explain additional services that are available. I used to go to this place a while back but stopped going because of these tactics. I went back for the first time a couple of days ago, but vowed it will be the last.
Pros: walk-ins ez
Cons: dubious sales pressur

I read about this place on citysearch and decided to go there to get my toes ready for summer. I was a little disappointed by the experience. My pedicurist chastised me for not having more frequent professional pedicures and seemed rushed. It seemed to bum her out that she had to do more work on my feet since they hadn't been professionally done in a while. I also notieced that she offer me tea or water until the next client arrived and she was offering it to her. The atmosphere is neat there and I loved the fact that because it's located in a clothing boutique you don't have the typical nail salon smell or atmosphere there. The lighting and music was very pleasant too.
