STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!

by Reviewer1000

On Septermber 27, 2009 I called Chow Lafayette and spoke with a "Manager" named Debra. I had left my driver's license in the market area while writing a check.

First, it took me being transferred and put on hold three times before I could find anyone who even seemed to be aware that I had a simple question. I was told by Debra "I don't have time to check; we're just too busy." Just to be sure, I asked her what her name was, as this is unacceptable conduct from any restaurant. She hung up the telephone on me!

Very bizarre. I called back again and asked for the bartender. I finally reached one who called himself "Charlie." I asked him who the senior-most manager was on duty tonight. He said "Debra" and then I could hear an exchange in the background where he said "yeah, same lady." I then heard Debra telling a female employee "tell her we just don't have time to check." Then Charlie rudely said "I've got too many tickets to handle this" and handed the phone to one of the ditzy girls that had orgininally sent me in circles. I hung up the phone.

After dining and buying countless meals at this restaurant since it opened, I will never go back again. IF A RESTAURANT CANNOT BE BOTHERED TO SIMPLY CHECK TO SEE IF SOMEONE TURNED IN A LOST DRIVER'S LICENSE, SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG WITH THE WAY THAT RESTAURANT IS BEING MANAGED!!!

Score:

Debra = F-

Charlie = F-

Ditzy girl = F-

Manager = F- Don't waste your money on this place!!!

  • Pros: Used to be okay.
  • Cons: Nightmare Customer Service

Properly named "Chow" to chow down anything here

by mejennings

On the suggestion of my mgr, who's taste buds I totally agree with, we stopped in @ Chow in Lafayette (end of June '09) for a late lunch. Just pleased all the way around & would come back as well as recommend ;-)

LOCATION: On Lafayette Circle right off of Mt Diablo Blvd in the shopping center really w/ a lot of other restaurants & shops. Location pulls in a lot of traffic from locals, shoppers, & college folks from St. Mary's.

RESTAURANT: Spacious, breezy, loud, friendly, & hip if you will. 2 thumbs up in my book! Outdoor patio on front part of restaurant & they have an inside deli-market area as well. Bar seating area is large; they even had the TV on Cartoon Network (sooo kid friendly). Plenty of natural sunlight gets inside as well from all the windows. Clean & spacious restaurant & bthrms for folks of any height, width, & age...good all-around pleaser!

SERVICE: Walked on in, & hostess asked "Where'd you like to sit inside or outside?" We said inside would be good & the gent hostess basically let us point out our own table of preference, then walked a party of 3 over. Different, but cool. Our waiter David was thorough throughout our meal...not too much nor too less w/ the "check-up". High five to u David!

FOOD: I had the Raspberry Lemonade which was tart/tangy/sparkly...not sure how to describe, but it was good. Mgr had the Tuesday's Special, Fish Tacos (w/ corn chowder) which he rather enjoyed; colleague had Fusilli of Chicken & Sausage; I tasted this & pretty good...pasta was al-denti & chicken was tasty; I had the Wood-Oven Lasagna. Saw a patron eating this as we were getting seated, asked her what dish she was eating, & I got it (yes, roll like that). Unfortunate no time for dessert, but my mgr personally recommends their "Ginger Cake w/ Pumpkin Ice Cream", so I'll have to come back just for that one day & a pizza I scoped out another patron eating that looked really good *tee-hee*

Final tab came just under $60 bucks I believe. Everything we drank & ate gets a recommendation!

  • Pros: Spacious, clean, friendly, & welcoming for anyone
  • Cons: Larger dessert menu

Good Eatin...

If you are in a hurry and want a quiet atmosphere this place is not for you. However if you are looking for a great time with friends and enjoy the hustle and bustle of a restuant which feels alive, then you've come across the right place. The wait staff is an ecletic goup of twenty somthings who are very polite.

When I'm not feeling the loud crowd I order to go. I usually like to hang in the market section and try the different wines while I wait. I usually frequent Chows once a week.
