I am careful about Japanese restaurants because I am a vegetarian, and sometimes I can find nothing on the menu. Drunken fish has many vege choices, some creative and new. Everything I've had is great. I've gone with many meat eaters, some of whom wont touch raw fish, and they've all found plenty of things to eat and loved it. A great place for the adventurous through the conservative lover of Japanese food. The atmosphere is nice too. The outdoor seating can be quite cold in winter, even with the space heaters. But it's worth it.

Wonderful sushi--very inventive rolls especially and also good tempura, great wakame (which is surprisingly hard to find, being often bilgey) salad and wonderful cold soba. I especially love the amigo roll, which started out as a special and may not be listed but is available: spicy maguro, tempura shrimp, avocado and rice in a pink soy paper roll drizzled with celadon-colored wasabe cream and bright coral tobiko. So pretty and delicious! And surprisingly reasonable. They do have outdoor seating as overflow with heaters but we didn't find it that comfortable and once they let some visiting Japanese businessmen smoke out there, just a few feet away--even after we protested.

I have had consistantly great sushi at Drunken Fish! I love this place. The Nigiri is the Best in the East Bay. I challenge anyone to show me another Sushi restaurant on this side of the bay that has better tasting Sake (Fresh Salmon). The rolls are delicious and not oversized like other larger "japanese" restaurants in Oakland. The staff are very friendly and care about personal service and quality. I highly recommend Drunken Fish and would tell my Clients and my friends to not only go but to run to this hidden Gem in Oakland.
