Terrible!!! Do you enjoy rancid fish and rice?. I have officially found the East Bay's worst sushi restaurant. Maybe even just worst restaurant.

Do you like rolls with spoiled fish that are mostly rice?

The rolls leave a lot to be desired. I have been here on several occasions and have yet to get a decent roll. I give every establishment the benefit of the doubt and will not write one off after just one bad experience. However this place is consistently awful. I am writing this review in the hopes that someone else does not have their lunch or dinner ruined by a bad choice of restaurants. I am keeping in mind that this is a local suburban strip mall sushi place, and rating accordingly, but even with this in mind, this place is very sub-par. The rolls are 95% rice. If I wanted to chew on a huge ball of sticky rice, then I would have ordered that. They then squirt a bunch of nasty "special sauce" on the top. Most likely to cover up the taste of the tiny chunk of spoiled fish chunk inside. This was not the first time that my food here tasted "off". However it was the first time I've ever experienced rancid raw fish at any sushi restaurant. I would not be surprised if they recycle/re-use the uneaten sushi from other patrons. The second to last time I was there they messed up my order and brought me the wrong roll. When I brought it to their attention they were very rude. After rolling her eyes, the woman snatched up the plate and scolded me!???! She said "If wrong don't touch, sushi very expensive" This would lead me to believe that they had the intent of re-using the ingredients for the next patron. DISGUSTING!!

Do yourself/your family/your friends a favor and go somewhere else. Really anywhere else in the area is better that this place.

I hope this review saves someone else the frustration of eating at this putrid establishment.

Hands down, best sushi in east bay. This place is consistently excellent... Prompty friendly service, although I've never been there on weekend night... Extensive menu and decent beer menu. Best roll? #50, Yama roll!

HORRIFIC. I went here for a quick lunch before a movie on 1/18/09. I ordered a "jennifer's roll", some salmon roe nigiri, and a beer.

I have literally never been more disappointed in anything I have ever ordered at any other restaurant. The first thing I noticed is the counter is so high that you cannot see the sushi being prepared. This made me a little nervous, but I was hungry so I decided to stay. The "Jennifer's roll" was advertised as an eel, crab, and avocado roll topped with salmon, green onions and unagi sauce. Instead of this, I received a roll stuffed with fake crab and avocado, topped with tough salmon and spicy mayonnaise.

My nigiri came out a moment later, two heaping servings of... soggy wilted eggs. I ate one anyways and the flavor was more "licking the bottom of an aquarium" instead of "rich, oily deliciousness".

My beer was the best part of the meal, even though it cost 8 dollars.

I was starving and I decided to deal with the mistake I made and I ate it all anyways. I lost my lunch (citysearch censored the previous verb) at the movie theater 45 minutes later, and I haven't felt good since.

Now, we will look at my bill:

Jennifers roll: 13.95 (fake crab, avocado, rice, four slices of tough salmon and mayonnaise)

Nigiri: 3.95 (disgusting soggy wilted eggs)

Asahi dry beer: 7.95 (I've paid a lot of money for a beer before, but they were GOOD beers)

Total: 25.85

Total as it appeared on my check: 29.10

What??!?!

If you like getting poisoned, licking the bottom of aquariums, paying 8 dollars for a single beer, or getting overcharged, this is your place. If you don't, GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

I'd continue my review, but I'm afraid I have to go get sick again.

I've been a sushi nut for 30+ years, driven miles out of my way to check out a. I love the sushi at this place. The fish is always very fresh, The portions of sushi fish are large, many budget sushi places have slices of fish 1/2 the size of Tatsu's. Don't like raw fish? Not a problem. Tatsu has a large menu of "cooked sushi" rolls. Not just the old favorites but inventive ones like the "Walnut Creek Roll" (Deep fried roll of yellowtail) with a delicious sauce on top.

Tatsu is able to keep fish choices such as Toro more available than most other places. Uni seems to be sweeter here and less fishy than most other places.

Can't decide what to get? Ask Tiffany, if she has the time she'll ask you a few food preferences and then make some recommendations. Sometimes I'll let Tiffany order for me and be surprised. Most of the time I am.

I have no idea how the rest of the Japanese menu is, I only order sushi. If you custom order the same sushi a lot . Your roll can appear on the 50+ sushi roll menu with your moniker on it!
