Editorial Review for Mingles Martini and Champagne Lounge – by Amanda Scotese
The Scene
Champagne glasses, velvet ropes and a strict dress code beckon some bling-bling, but luckily these high-class touches don't equal snobbery. Respecting live music reigns over flaunting wads of cash, though on special singles nights, some may be out to impress. Past the bar, a black-lit room boasts glowing white tables, stage and dance floor, while a small, red-lit VIP room secretly stays on the side.
The Draw
Each evening delivers a well-rounded lineup: It frequently begins with stand-up comedy before moving on to live music, usually jazz bands, many of which are top genre-breakers in the underground Oakland music scene. Finally, a house or urban-grooves DJ takes the stage and the real dancing begins. Of the plethora of martini choices, the sour apple martini maintains a strong bite without tasting like candy.

I live next door to mingles and it seems to attract the wrong crowd. I would not go there because it is way too dangerous, too loud and ghettolicouis. it used to be such a nice mature jazz club. The club does not fit with the Jack London environment and needs to be shut down. There has been 2 shootings in the last couple of months making the neighborhood VERY dangerous for residents. Sad thing is, the review here does not really matter because the patrons do not care or they do not log online.
Pros: NONE

I was disappointed in Mingles. Even after reading the first review on this site, we still decided to go there. Unfortunately, it was like an eighth grade dance. They have a huge dance floor and the DJ was great, but no one was dancing. Occasionally a brave soul would stumble out there but only for a few minutes. The music is way too loud, so there is no room to socialize at all! The first reviewer described this club as the "Ghetto" and I would say that was pretty accurate. Although, they do search the women's purses and pat down the men before entering the club...so you can feel safe??!
Pros: HUGE club, Great music
Cons: Overpriced, Sm. drinks for price
