hip but informal and home-cooked breakfast.
This family-run breakfast (and lunch) joint is informal and bustling but courteous staff and pleasant atmosphere. Standard breakfast fare, tasty and with a homemade touch. Coffee (self-serve refills) is good and I love the blueberry pancakes!

Great food & value too!.
Open only for breakfast & lunch Wed-Sun, Meal Ticket, although working from a smallish menu, manages to consistently produce simple yet well prepared and tasty meals. Pancakes include unusual corn, buckwheet, and sometimes blueberry offerings. Breakfast specials can include such classics as steak and eggs, pork loin & eggs, salmon & eggs, trout & eggs and occasional special omlets ( don't miss pesto or green eggs and ham omlett if available). All items are made from scratch with fresh ingredients. A rich McLaughlin coffee is served, orange juice is fresh (of course), and beer/wine is available with lunch which always has a homemade soup available. Jimmy makes all the muffins, tarts and other baked goods.
Meal ticket was previously located near Herrich Hospital, but it's new location after a hiatus of several years is superior in that seating is ample.
Street parking is generally available in the area.

Top-notch down-home breakfast and lunch fare comforts the East Bay..
The Scene
Masks and other multicolored souvenirs from the owners' extensive treks across Asia line the walls of this cheery breakfast and lunch spot. Order at the counter and grab a copper-topped table--it's all about self-service, but on occasion, someone on staff pops by to make sure everything is peachy keen.
The Food
Dedication to home-style food is the kitchen's reason for existing. The artichoke and blue cheese omelette is a delicious jumble of strong personalities, while a special of grilled salmon and eggs topped with salsa fresca is simple as it gets. Don't miss a chance to sample the cornmeal pancakes--they juggle an impossible balance of hearty and light. Offerings at lunchtime include sandwiches ranging from a warm, spicy chipotle-laced pork loin sandwich to grilled steak with sweet caramelized onions and sublimely dressed salads. Breakfast, with baked goods like a crumbly currant scone, is the best time for those with a sweet tooth.

A special neighborhood place.
The husband and wife who run this place are always hands-on. There's no second string. Where else can you get an affordable meal caringly cooked by an English former Olympic swimming medalist. The eggs with trout and salsa is a breakfast winner. Pancakes have been mentioned by others. He does a great job with pork chops too. Curry chicken salad's a winner. Meal Ticket, despite its quality, somehow avoids the pressured feeling of most weekend breakfast venues. The mood is laid-back, just right. It's open long hours most days. I worry that these folks work too hard, sometimes they look tired. But they do close up for a month each year to travel the world and renew themselves. All the better for us when they get back.
