The biggest waste of money and the WORST SERVICE. Doesn't even deserve 1 star! They are WAY over priced which I would be willing to deal with if the service was worth it. The first time I went in I waited an hour for take out, 25 minutes of which was waiting for my order to be taken. I called in today for take out trying to give them a second chance, and got hung up on! When I called back to find out who it was that hung up on me, I found out it was the OWNERS SON! I told him I could not believe he hung up on me, and was shocked. He was unapologetic and extremely rude. Don't waste your time! Go to Mai Thai on Clayton. They have better prices and much better food with OUTSTANDING service!

best indian food stinky server. just because the food was good I gave it one star. I was there on a Tuesday and it looked like there was only one server in the restaurant to take care of all the customers that where in there the small place was almost full and only one boy running everywhere. That made service horrible, it took him for ever to come to our table and take our order and most of us don't have allot of time to have lunch. to make things worst I think that the server forgot to put deodorant. I feel bad talking about people like this but the young man smelled like he had not had a shower in days. I know that everyone in the restaurant could smell him since he was sweating from all that running and i wonder if the owner can't afford to hire another person to help that smelly boy it would not cost him so much cause servers make their money of tips, but its and Indian restaurant and like most indian restaurants i think that none of those boys who work there get any tips. Most Indian restaurant owners always take the servers tips. I don't know if this is the case of hot basil cafe i hope not cause i always give a good tip. Well i love their food and i just hope that the young man can remember to put deodorant next time I’m in there.

Diamond in the rough. I've been living in walnut creek for 4 years now and I just so happen to work by a place called the hot basil cafe. If there is one word to describe it, steller! I don't think I have ever had better Indian food or Thai in my life and I say that with little exagguration. The food was excellent and the service was on top of their game. I used to be a waiter so I know how hectic it gets when it's busy but these men get the job done. A must go and tell all who want a great meal

Overpriced and bad.. I just finished "eating" a take-out order from this place. It should *not* cost $60 for two appetizers, two curries and some naan. I still think they computed my bill wrong, but I didn't push the issue because I had a hungry family waiting for me.

When I got home, though, I found that the food I'd been overcharged for is simply horrible. Both the chicken satay and the thai stuffed chicken wings were tough beyond belief - basically inedible. Luckily you only get 2 chicken wings in a $7 appetizer. If you want these cooked right - and with double the portions for the same price - go to Thai Osha instead.

Both curries tasted like the had they same sauce (even though one was a masala and the other a korma), and were of about the quality I'd expect from a sauce bought in a jar. The naan was dry and had gaping holes in it like it was improperly cooked.

Even if you live in the east bay, you can do much better than this. Have some standards and give this place a miss. There are better places - both Indian and Thai - that are cheaper, and *much* better places for in the same price range.
