In Short – Housed in a historic building, this cozy pub and restaurant is furnished with dark-wood furniture, wooden beams and a brick fireplace. Two bars feature 11 taps dispensing Irish beers like Guinness, Murphy's and Caffrey's. Diners nosh on Irish and American cuisine, like bangers and mash and corned beef, at either the tables downstairs or in a more formal room upstairs. From Wednesday to Friday, the place rocks with live music by local bands.

Beautiful Bar.... strange experience...it is Monday

The building's great. I've been told that most people have great experiences here. I love the two fireplaces and the vibe is cool. But no joke, I bellied up to the bar to buy a round of drinks and the guy next to me at the bar spat on the floor and then proceeded to yak all over the place before getting up and staggering out. I told the bar-tender what had happened and retired to the back room to sit by the fireplace and chat. When we left....the floor was still ummm...soiled. I'd have thought the bartender would want to get it cleaned up pronto. But...hey...maybe that's authentic Irish???
- Pros: Great place. Cool vibe.
- Cons: Bartender not really on top of it.

Went here last week to check out the band Wayward Sway who was really good. Before the show I had dinner which was pretty good. I then sat at the bar to watch the band, as they "warming up" there was a little feed back that came from the amps...the bartender freaked out....and started screaming...I was totally in shock by this...I mean I am not in a band, but I would think that a little feed back is pretty common....then this guy came up to the bar to put his glass down and by accident he dropped it behind the bar, I think where the ice was and again the bartender FREAKED - and started yelling at the guy and told him to get out of his face. It was an accident for christ sake. Needless to say if I wasn't there to see the band I would have left ...and most likely I will never go back.
- Pros: good beer
- Cons: uptight bar tenders

Great import selection, nice atmosphere, bars on both the first and second floors

Beckett's has a great import selection, as well as a charming pub atmosphere. It's a nice place to go after work for a few drinks, and possibly stay for dinner. I always have good experiences here, except for one time, when the upstairs bartender had a problem with my passport. (I think bartenders need more common sense. No one would lend anyone else their passport! It's like 70 dollars to replace it when it's lost! But what do I know) Anyway, if you're a fan of import beers on tap, this is the best place in the area for drinking. Cheers!
- Pros: Nice central Berkeley location, GREAT import beer selection on tap, Near buses and BART
- Cons: Can be noisy at times, can be crowded, restrooms either downstairs or upstairs!
