I'm not vegan. I just like good food. I was interested to see how the words good, vegan, and japanese go together. I got my answer: pricey, long wait, and very creatively. The food here is unique and if you're a meat lover then you're going to be hungry. The place is packed and doesn't take reservations so come early, come in a small group, preferably 2-4.

Although I'm not a vegetarian, I love a great veggie meal. My experience at Cha-Ya, however, was quite simply the most disappointing food experience of my life. The vegetables were overcooked, limp, and flavorless. The noodle dish was bland and watery. The potstickers were burnt and, quite simply, should never have been served. I'm shocked this place has received good reviews from other diners.

It's the best Japanese Vegetarian restaurant out there as far as I know. It's a must-eat whenever my friends/family and I go to Bayarea. The line is usually long (one hour or longer); you might want to get there around 5pm or 9pm to avoid the crowd, especially on weekends.
